MARION EDITH ALDRICH CUSHING
MILTON - Marion Edith Aldrich Cushing, 84 of Milton, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at her home.
Marion was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Swiftwater, N.H., the daughter of the late Karl and Blanche Kezer Aldrich. She met George C. Cushing in Littleton, N.H. and they later married on March 1, 1946, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and went on to spend 57 years happily married.
She worked for 25 years at the New England Telephone Company as the night supervisor. In 1978, she was honored as Vermont State Mother of the Year. One of the testimonies given about her was, “She is enduring; survival is a state of mind and liberation is a fact of life. The blows dealt by life seem to have made her stronger in her faith as well as in her person. The abundance of love and respect from her family is the sum total of hers for them.” For our Mother, family was everything, her belief was to do everything with a smile on your face and faith in your heart and trust in God.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: John and Linda Cushing of Milton, Linda and Bruce Barrows of Georgia, Paula and Charles Racine of Pueblo West, Colo., Allen and Carol Cushing of Milton, Sandra and Frank Read of Georgia, Carl and Karen Cushing of Milton, Richard Cushing of Essex, Stephen and Michelle Cushing of Colchester, Terry and Tanya Cushing of Milton, and Theresa and Craig Savoy of Milton. She is also survived by her 59 grandchildren, including spouses; 57 great-grandchildren and counting; her sister, Hazel Kolher of Pennsylvania; and her loving second mother, Athalie Cogswell. She leaves many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention, however loved just the same. She also leaves behind her well beloved dog, Sweetie. She leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Dot Cushing and Nina Cushing, and their families.
She is predeceased by her husband, George C. Cushing, in September 2003; her parents, Karl and Blanche Aldrich; her brother, Francis; and sister, Alice Aldrich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Parish with Father John Feltz, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
