Shirley E. (Austin) Parah
Starksboro - Shirley Estelle (Austin) Parah, 74 passed away peacefully early Saturday morning April 4, 2009 at the home of her daughter Norma in Starksboro. She was born in Milton, VT on March 19, 1935 daughter of the late Irving and Phyllis (Guillemette) Austin. Shirley was a graduate of St. Mary’s class of 1955. She married Philip T. Parah on November 26, 1960 whom predeceased her on December 14, 2003. She had worked for many years in the bookstore at the University of Vermont. Shirley was a loving and caring person and will be greatly missed by those having the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by: Her children Norma Sprague her husband Steve and their son James of Starksboro; John Parah and friend Lerinda Gabree of Fairfax; Barbara Parah of St. Albans; Lovingly “adopted” daughter Phyllis Kilburn of Starksboro; Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by her son Victor Parah on November 21, 2003, The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Hospice and Home Health of Addison County. And the many volunteers for the loving and attentive care they afforded Shirley.
There will be no public visiting hours. A graveside committal service with burial in the family lot will be held at St. Luke Cemetery, Fairfax, VT on Wednesday April 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Vermont Chapter 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
