I am not absolutely sure, but believe this is the same gentleman who used to come and sing at our Friendly Senior Citizens Luncheons.  He would have been 92 in about a week.  Rev Elizabeth may know him and I am sure Orman Ovitt does.

This is sad news, although he has apparently lived a good long life. I have fond memories of Stuart Newton's sugar house as a kid, I went there many times. I have always wondered what happened to him. The old sugar house is still standing, but the maple grove was long ago sold and houses built. I never knew why the sugar house was left there intact, if that small parcel of land was still owned by the Newton family or what?? If it was perhaps now it will be sold and the sugar house removed, too bad. It has a unique recognizable design that you could see among many and say "That's Stuart Newton's sugar house." It belongs at Shelburne Museum, in my opinion.

Yes, Stuart used to sing at quite a few functions. He sure was a busy guy, everyone seems to have known him!  His sugar house now belongs to the Vallee's.

Stuart loved to sing.  His wife Esther, who pre-deceased him, taught him the songs he knew, and he loved to sing and tell a bit about himself.  He came to each of my churches once or twice a summer  for several years to share his music.  Granted he had a limited repertoire, and an old one, but we enjoyed him. His voice remained strong; he must have been a powerful singer when he was young.  I believe he would sing in all the area churches during the summer; sometimes he and his son Sam would sing at various nursing homes.
He will be missed, indeed.  And yes, he led a long and full and rich life.
