Title: Talk About A Close Vote - Somebody's Vote Would Have Counted
Post by: Henry on April 15, 2009, 08:05:54 AM
Voters is Essex Junction passed the high school and tech center budgets Tuesday night, but rejected the proposed K-8 budget.  The School Board was seeking approval of a 16-million spending plan for the K-8 schools.

It was close to a million dollars more than last year's budget. The measure failed by just two votes -- with 403 in support and 405 residents voting against.  The high school budget did win approval with residents from the town and village casting ballots. The tally was 985-to-888.

Surprising that a recount isn't done, at least on the ballots that the machine may have kicked out, however, maybe they didn't have any.  Its one of those things where some of those that didn't vote, may have wished they had.

I remember back when they wanted to put in the sewer system, the original plan was to have it near the covered bridge. That plan was defeated by ONE VOTE.

A million dollar increase in one year is substantial!  Didn't the govenor ask to keep  all budgets as close to last year as possible.  The kids aren't suffering at Essex Ed, Believe me!
