Last night when I heard the fire department go out to White Pine Road, Maryann said, "Where's White Pine Road?"
Well, I'll be darned if I know, so went in the computer room and cranked up my computer and went to my Handy Dandy Road Locater at:

I am not sure just when our 911 started here in Fairfax, but I do remember George LeGault typing up everybody's name with their new 911 address and putting it on The Fairfax Town Computer. My address was for many, many years, RFD#2, Box 2220. For genealogy purposes I inputted the 911 addresses in my Fairfax Genealogy Program to make it easier for people doing Genealogy Research to know exactly where some of their ancestors used to live.
We had less than 100 Roads back when George LeGault did this. I remember seeing a guy driving up The Fletcher Road with his arm out the window hanging on to the contraption with a wheel on it that was measuring the distance from the beginning of The Fletcher Road, so he could correlate it with each driveway I believe and give each house a number on The Fletcher Road.
Quite an advancement, then you add the fact that when you make a 911 call, the dispatcher can immediately identify where you are calling from.
We sure have come a long ways.
