Title: Costco Drops Plans To Add Gas Pumps
Post by: Henry on April 27, 2009, 10:45:54 AM
I am sure Maplefields is once again happy as they object to any competitive businesses at all of the Interstate Exits they have stations at:

Costco has abandoned plans to add gas pumps to its mammoth outlet in Colchester and is instead seeking approval for a 14,080 square foot addition to its building.

The building would grow to 139,828 square feet if the Colchester Development Review Board approves the proposal. The board will consider the Costco proposal at its May 13 meeting.

An original proposal the Development Review Board considered last summer for the Costco addition called for a gas station with six pumps at Costco.

Costco has since removed the gas pumps from the application. Some neighbors, including some competing gas stations, had objected to the gas pumps, saying the traffic patterns and environmental risks resulting from the project were too great.

At Costco stores that sell gasoline elsewhere in the nation, gas is typically less expensive than what is available at other outlets. However, only Costco members can buy gasoline at Costco.

Environmental Concerns ?  I would expect the very strict Vermont guidelines to apply ( and work effectively ).    Sounds like the competition is nervous to me.   and ............. The Cost Savings to Costco Members is relatively small too -- ( typicallly a couple of cents per gallon )   not worth a special trip --
