Charlene M. (Bessette) Matthews

Charlene Mary (Bessette) Matthews age 59 passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning October 15, 2005 at Fletcher Allen Health Care. She was born in St. Albans, VT July 28, 1946 the daughter of the late Francis and Reba (Ellsworth) Bessette. She graduated from BFA Fairfax, Class of 1964 and was a graduate of Champlain College class of 1966. She married Earle A. Matthews in St. Luke’s Church Fairfax VT, November 28, 1970.

Charlene was an affectionate and proud stay at home mother. She took the extra effort as a loving homemaker to give special attention to each one of her children. She loved to knit afghans and was sure to have completed a special afghan for all of her appreciative family members. She was an excellent cook in the kitchen and creative baker known for such goodies as her delicious rolls and cream cheese brownies. She always looked forward to the quiet times tending to her vegetable gardens and times spent during each spring sugaring season. But most of all she was a dedicated and loving wife and mother always unconditionally available for her family whenever needed. She will be tremendously missed by her family and many friends that had the true pleasure to know and love her.

She is survived by her husband Earle Matthews of Essex, her 6 children:  Nathan of Essex, Alan & friend Darcie of Essex, Jasan & Kristie of Burlington, Sara of Essex, Jonathan & Aimee of Essex , Melissa of Essex, Four Brothers: Edward & wife Carol of Fairfax, William & wife Mary of Sheldon, Frederick & wife Judi of Wisconsin, Thomas & wife Roberta of Massachusetts, Two Sisters: Brenda Thibault & husband Sylva of Fairfax, Lisa Minor & husband Marvin of Fairfax.  Many nieces, nephews, cousins, Two Aunts:  Beatrice Bessette and Rita Bessette and One Uncle,  Ralph Ellsworth.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005 from 7 to 9 pm at the A.W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 in The St. Lukes Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Francis Connors officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mt. View Cemetery Essex, VT. Memorial contributions may be made in Charlene’s memory to Essex Rescue Squad PO Box 124, Essex Jct., VT 05452 or Essex Fire Department First Responders 81 Main St. Essex Jct., VT 05452.
