Title: Website Help
Post by: katrinaantonovich on June 28, 2009, 09:54:11 PM
I was wondering if there is anyone in Fairfax who might be able to donate a few hours to teach me how to set up and manage our fairfaxrecreation website. I'd like to be able to put an on-line registration form on for the egg run that people can fill out and just submit - if you can help, e-mail me fairfaxparksandrec@yahoo.com or call 849-2641 - Thanks!
Katrina

Thanks Mike - but isn't he in Florida? I'd like to meet with someone here in town who could teach me how to set it up and run it. Again if anyone local could help me it would be great!

Katrina,

If you have no responses from anyone local, refer to the check list below....

1. If you have MS Word you can create your content by saving it as an htm or Html file. Hypertext Format File.

2. You need to get a service that will allow you to upload your html and any pictures you want to display on your website to a server. You will need a FTP program and there are excellent ones for FREE! I use one.

3. You need to secure and buy a domain name, www.fairfaxrec.(whatever). I think they are like $3.00 a year.

I had my website through Larry and I had zero problems with upload and down time.

You can ask me more questions if you need to, just PM me.

Katrina, I tried to send an email to the address above, but it was returned. I could probably give you a few pointers on setting up and maintaining a website. If your husband's name is Henry, he should be able to give you a little help also. I remember working with Henry a few years ago and giving him a little html training.

If you want to create a web site and update it with a WYSIWYG website designer/editor there is a good free download you can get at:

http://webdesign.about.com/od/freewebeditors/p/aaamaya.htm (http://webdesign.about.com/od/freewebeditors/p/aaamaya.htm)

There is also another Free Download that is not a WYSIWYG website designer/editor called Arachnophilia.

Speaking of WYSIWYG editors, I think I have an older version of Dreamweaver that I can give you. It not only has the webpage editor, but it also has flash animation editors and other helpful tools. Let me know if you want it...
