REMEMBERING..............................
Posted for Monday July 20th................
An early posting as I crawling in early.........
The passing of famous people continues.
Walter Cronkite passed away last Friday. I watched a special remembering him Sunday night on CBS. Unfortunately, I can't come up with a single moment that stands out for me about Cronkite. I remember watching the CBS News. But no single big moment. I was too young to remember Kennedy's assasination.
He was always there, doing the news.
We mark 40 years that Apollo 11 landed on the moon. I remember Dad waking us up so we could watch it, because it was around 12:30 in the morning. Not sure if it was registering what was going on, or couldn't understand the grainy images we were watching, but we kept asking Mom and Dad if they were really walking on the moon.
A few days later, we got some envelopes in the mail, but Mom told us not to open them. They were commemorative stamped envelopes. Mom had sent in empty envelopes with our names and addresses on them to, I think, the postal service. They were going to put on special stamps marking the landing, and postmarked the day they landed on the moon, and mail them back. I still have mine somewhere.
