Title: Where Is That Silo???
Post by: Henry on July 24, 2009, 07:20:18 AM
Gov. Jim Douglas on Thursday announced $161,000 in historic preservation barn grants for 19 farms to help preserve their barns for future generations.

Among the barns to receive a grant is the Old Giddings/Wimble place on Route 104 towards Cambridge.  The Vermont Woodworking School Silos, Fairfax: $7,250 to repair/replace bases, walls and roofs.

I took several photos back in 2008 of the old barn but in looking for the silo, can't seem to see it.

Another local barn to receive a grant was The Lamoille Farm Barn, Cambridge: $10,000 to repair foundation, replace sills, re-flash/repair cupola, and repair frame, siding, windows and slate roof.

Thanks Dean.  I still haven't been up there to talk with the guys.  The only one I actually know is Bert Steen and since I am so locally minded, want to make sure that I communicate with someone that the community is familiar with.  I viewed the video of the people interviewed on their web site, but none seemed to be from Fairfax.

I definitely will make it up there, but just never seem to find the time.  I know that everybody knows I have been retired now for 17 years and probably think I have all kinds of time.  Interestingly enough I actually keep quite busy and can't believe I have been retired this long - I have a lot to be thankful for.
