R.E.M.-The early years- Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Bill Berry, Peter Buck
Whenever I do dishes, I take out the boombox and put some music on. I've gotten away from Green Day and My Chemical Romance, and rediscovered R.E.M., a band from Athens, Georgia that has been around for almost 30 years.
I am more into their older stuff. Their Greatest Hits album when they were with I.R.S. Records, Eponymous, is one of my favorite albums. Songs like Radio Free Europe, So.Central Rain, Fall On Me, are really good. They were more a cult band until they did a song called Losing My Religion in the early 1990's. They became huge after that. Strangely, I prefer their earlier stuff. I do like the later stuff, Losing My Religion, and What's The Frequency, Kenneth?, but I'm more choosey about what songs I like. They did a second Greatset Hits of stuff after they left I.R.S., and I have it, but I will select certain songs to listen to. But with Eponymous, I can listen to the whole thing over and over.
Wikipedia has a good biography of them:
