Title: Physical Condition Of Our Volunteer Firemen
Post by: Henry on August 08, 2009, 08:03:05 AM
A recent situation in the Southern part of Vermont where a firefighter was run over by a fire truck, seems to indicate that the firefighter killed had a medical condition and apparently died and fell to the ground before being run over by the fire truck.

Apparently, it was a known condition.  I was wondering if our volunteer firefighters have to pass any physical exams or if there are any restrictions on what they do as part of our firefighting team, or do they just all work together assigning tasks that each volunteer is capable of doing within their limitations.

I have the story about the firefighter in Southern Vermont that was killed under my Vermont Current Events at:

You can have all of the physical agility test and medical information on someone that THEY PROVIDE but stuff slips through. With all of this privacey stuff it is hard to know what is what.

How much can you expect a VFD to pay out for medical exams? Not much, is my bet since it is a V and not a paid dept.
