Looks like we are about two weeks later this year, but those temperatures we usually see starting after August 15th are just around the corner:
There will be lots of sunshine on Thursday and Friday, but high temperatures will only be in the 60s. Lows will be in the 40s, with even a few upper 30s likely in some of the colder pockets on Friday morning.
The Champlain Valley Fair is just around the corner and they are expecting a bumper crop of apples this year. I know that people will probably hate me for this, but I do love fall.
I know that I have probably mentioned this many times before, but this was the time on the farm that the cows were out in the meadow, last year's grain bills were finally paid and Dad got his biggest milk checks. It was a time to look back at all the hard work that had been done during the summer and be grateful for a wonderful harvest.
There is just something about fall that is truly wonderful and lifts my spirits.

Henry I love the fall as well but......mentally I am not prepared to accept the fact that our short lived summer weather is on the way out. I will continue to sport the shorts and flip flops until the morning frost is too much to handle.

I like the down jacket/sandal combo! We've already had that kind of weather here in Wyoming....
Oh Summer, please don't goooooo!
(sorry about the whining)

I want a repeat of a couple of years ago when it stayed warm for so long, that it was Oct. 1st and the leaves were still green.
Just some wishful thinking on my part.

The water felt warmer than the air last evening.
Cale and I enjoyed our swim.

Nothing like the sound of a dozen Canadian Geese flying overhead this morning to remind you that Fall is near. Heading for the corn fields to fatten up!

As much as I like the warm weather, I really dislike AC! So I won't necessarily hurry fall into getting here, but I am usually happy to see it arrive--the days are sunny and I can be comfortable in a hoodie-no AC freezing me out of wherever I go! I have never understood the rationale of complaining about the cold/lack of daylight all winter then spending the summer in a colder than normal environment with shades drawn to keep the sun out all summer!!??
It's discouraging to dress for the warm weather then go some place and freeze. I have learned to carry a sweatshirt with me for when I go shopping or out to eat or some place I know I will be cold in short sleeves.
I know all the folks out there who are terminally hot (who get their way with the temp gauge) believe that it is easier to warm up than to cool down, but I can say with certainty it's not! It's just as bad if not worse in some cases. I don't envy you your sweat; however, being cold affects a person's extremities and putting on extra layers doesn't help that problem. It's not possible to wear gloves for many tasks.
Another upshot of fall--no mosquitos!!! :) :)

I empathize with you. Although I'm a perpetual Hot Body. I work in a place that has a business casual dress code - which means Guys HAVE to wear Collared-shirts, pants and socks and shoes. Business casual IS NOT THE SAME for women - thus women can come-in in tank top-eque shirts, capris, sandals, skirts, summer dresses. I don't think it's fair at all that the Men in the office, who DO NOT have the option of wearing anythign less and thus being able to control our body temps, to suffer because the women choose to wear shoulderless dresses, shirts, skirts and sandals. Sorry to say it - BUT the women CAN come in dressed similarly or in layers and thus moderate their body temps - the men cannot - thus the temp should accomodate the group that CANNOT modify their Body temp.
Same thing happens, as you mention mirjo, in restaurants, weddings, conferences, and movie theaters ( why i tneeds to be 45 in the movies though is beyond me). If you cater only to the women - then you lose the men as lack of comfort is lack of attention or enjoyment - and who wants that?

So true! Everything comes down to a comfortable temperature, which is why we talk about the weather so much I guess. But what that is no one knows. I am happy at 72 inside (while awake), but many think that's too warm and prefer something mid-upper 60's which is average, but too cold for me. I guess we just keep on keeping on with how we adjust and try not to hold it against each other for our differences! :)

My husband can not figure me out and probably never will, however, he can not understand how 68 in the summer is beautiful to me but 68 in the winter is freezing. There is a difference to me. Is there a difference to you?
