Title: Farmer's Hay Saves Stowe Dentist From Severe Injuries In Plane Crash

Yesterday afternoon, 51-year-old Peter Hebert of Stowe, took off in a home-kit experimental plane he built himself at the Morrisville Airport. A witness said the plane was about 150 feet off the ground when it suddenly veered left, and then nose dived into some hay bales on the nearby Miller Farm.

Seems to me there are a lot of these home built airplanes from kits that are crashing and nobody really knows why.  There is more in a report from Channel 3 at:

Perhaps the people putting them together are not doing it right or there is something missing from the "kit." Isn't it a dangerous practice to allow these things in the air? For the pilot and people on the ground? What if he didn't crash in a hay field and it was a house instead?

I'm not sure that I'd actually put myself inside an airplane that I (or anyone) made from a "kit" purchased who knows where. It's like buying a car on the internet from General Motors "some assembly required" and it arrives in a FedEx box, needing obscure metric tools to put it together!

One of our forum members asked me if I still had the post from a few years ago of the plane crash in Fairfax Village.  Sent him the link to it and guess what - Same guy that crashed up in Morrisville crashed here June 16, 2007.  Thanks Tom and check the link below to refresh your memory:

A pilot recovering from a plane crash on Monday has had trouble in the air before.

Peter Hebert's small plane went down shortly after taking off from the Morrisville Airport Monday. He was injured but is now in good condition at the hospital. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Two years ago, Hebert crashed a plane in a field in Fairfax. He told police that his engine failed while flying at 3,000 feet. He could not make it back to Morrisville so he crash-landed in Fairfax. In that crash, Hebert was not hurt and his plane sustained minimal damage.
