Title: Price Chopper Renovating Essex Center Store "To State Of The Art"
Post by: Henry on September 14, 2009, 08:25:09 AM
The Price Chopper store on Center Road in Essex has planning commission approval to build an addition that will make what developer Ernie Pomerleau calls a “state of the art” grocery store.

The Essex Planning Commission approved an 8,441-square-foot building addition to the Price Chopper at 86 Center Road on Aug. 13. The approval also includes changes to the building facade, which are intended to blend with the existing structure, and feature a single main entrance, bigger windows and the addition of dormers to the building.

“They’re virtually going in and redoing the whole store,” Pomerleau said of Price Chopper’s plans.

“It will be a state of the art, customer-based prototype for Price Chopper. It will have specialty elements … the presentation of produce will be lovely. It will add a lot of panache.”

Mary Kay went down to the Price Chopper on Shelburne and was really impressed with that store and it looks like maybe they will be doing something similar in Essex Center.  Essex Center's Hannafords and Price Chopper Stores have an ideal location as there are tons of commuters who head up that way on their way home to towns that do not have big super markets.

Price Chopper is not my favorite store as I am very price conscious, but I do have to say it does have customer appeal - Their produce department in particular is very well set up, but I understand that in their stores like the one on Shelburne Road it is even more elaborate.
