Title: Taking Maryann To The Beauty Parlor
Post by: Henry on September 17, 2009, 08:49:19 AM
I wonder where the word "Beauty Parlor" came from.  Not sure when we got "Citified" and started calling it the "Hair Salon."  Kind of like men now-a-days don't go to a barbers anymore, they go to a "Hair Stylist."  I still have a fear of going into the "Beauty Parlor" and have to say I have never been in at Nancy's where Maryann gets her hair done.  It just doesn't seem like a Man's place to be.

I remember a number of years ago when Andy had open heart surgery, I had to find a place to get my hair cut.  Ended up going to Fairfax Commons and somebody cut my hair there.  Sooooooooooo  Uncomfortable.

We sometimes wonder why people have biases.  Guess it is all in our upbringing.

Henry -- Do what I do

Cut your own hair !!

Go to your closest box store, buy a pair of 'clippers' ( wicked cheap,  a good set is  less than $ 25 )  use a 'One Guide' ..

akes me about 5 - 10 minutes ---    Old Dogs can learn new tricks !!

Let me know how it works out for you.. Mike M

Maybe after Andy goes - Right now he barbers 2 1/2 days a week to pay for his health insurance.  Right now I give him $10.50 every 8 weeks.

I get my twice a year haircut at Creative Edge. Doesn't bother me at all.
When I was little, I, too, used to go see Andy, when he was here in the village. Then Gerry Minor used to cut hair up at his antique place on Fairfax Plains.

A guy by the name of Roger over in Milton is retiring and I understand a woman is taking over the business, but not sure what she is going to call it.  She is a hair dresser I guess and can't continue to call it a barbershop, because she does not have a barber's license -

$10.50 ??? That is why I cut my own too, what little is left. I don't think I can get a bad or good hair cut but make quick and easy work of it on my own.

I remember going to Micky's in Enosburg growing up. Always liked the place deer head on the wall, sports magazines, and no hair care products for sale. It was a big treat when I was little because he put after shave on my neck when he shaved it, with a straight razor. Made me feel all grown up. Last time I went there was in high school and if I remember right it set me back $3.00
