The following is the Channel 3 News Script Aired Friday Night At 6 p.m.
They watched videos. Took a minute in between classes to read posters. And walked around school wearing yellow Stars of David like the ones the Nazis forced European Jews to wear during the Holocaust. Jason Halloway. a Student said "it's to promote International Holocaust Memorial Day. And it's to help raise awareness about the survivors and the Holocaust." The group of students responsible for making the stars and educational display call themselves "Tongues Un-Tied." Sara Meigs/member of tongues un-tied said "we've had discussions about things like abortion and teen pregnancy and the Holocaust is a big thing we've talked about. Controversial issues that no one else really wants to touch basically." There are a number of people who say the Holocaust never happened. Just last month the President of Iran called the Holocaust a myth. That's why members of "tongues Un-tied say they're so committed to educating their peers about what happened more than 60 years ago. Megan Benay/members of tongues untied said "the survivors are dying. They're getting older. It's our generation's responsibility to teach and to continue the education that the Holocaust happened and it was the hatred that caused it." In a world that has a history of cruelty, these students are dedicated to remembering the past so they may change the future. Potash/teacher said "they are just wonderful students. Wonderful young people. They are everything that's right with the world today."
