As of yesterday a little over $100,000 had been collected for Operation Holiday Homecoming, the effort to raise money to bring about 700 Vermont National Guard soldiers home for Christmas leave. These guys (and gals) are soon to be deployed to Afghanistan will be given a week off from training at Christmas but are on their own to find a ride back to Vermont.
Vermonters are responding generously, as the always do, for our military. 'Operation Holiday Homecoming’ is administered by the Vermont National Guard Charitable Foundation, Inc. Approximately $315,000 needs to be raised to charter airplanes to bring the 700 Guard soldiers home for Christmas week.
