Title: Front Loading Washers - Not All +'s
Post by: Henry on November 20, 2009, 10:14:33 AM
Our old stackable top loading washer went up on us a while back, so we now have a front loading washer stackable unit.  Some of the things I miss are the ability to soak white clothes or curtains, etc. that you can't do in a front loading washer.  I end up using an old cooler or mop pail to do this.  Also, my daughter told me a while back that when you get done with the washer, you should leave the front door open or ajar to let the moisture out.  Maryann and I have no pets or kids around, so that is not a problem, but don't think it would be a wise idea if you had small kids and pets.

Last but not least, apparently some people have been having a mold problem as indicated by the link sent to me.  For those of you that are contemplating buying a new washing machine, you might want to read this before making your final decision.

Thanks for posting that Henry. My washer is approaching 20 years old, and I've been thinking of replacing it with a front loader when it dies. After reading that website, I think I'll stick with a top loader.

I've had a front loader for almost 4 years and absolutely love it! And I DO soak things in mine. I just have to toss them around once in a while during the soak by having the drum rotate a few times. I always close the door between loads and have never had a mold problem. The amount of water it takes is a considerable amount less than a top loader and it spins the clothes extremely well. This is an important feature for me in that I line dry all my clothes. I don't have a dryer. I have found my front loader to be very efficient and easy to use. I would recommend one in a heartbeat. Everyone has their own oppinions. When making a large purchase, it's best to get lots of opinions and to do your research.

I love my front loader too. I always leave the door cracked so no problems. My mom has one too and loves it. I always left the lid of the top loader up too but not sure why. I never questioned it. Kinda funny when you ask yourself and don't know why. I guess it is the same reason I let food cool before putting it in the fridge. I have no clue why I do that. Maybe it is because my mom always did and her mom did and it goes back to the ice boxes when you had too. Good luck. I don't know why.
