Title: H P Hood Stops Buying Organic Milk
Post by: Henry on December 12, 2009, 09:10:15 AM
HP Hood is going to stop buying organic milk in January. Only six Vermont farms have contracts with Hood, but most other processors are implementing quotas and are cutting pay. Farmers say the recession led to a drop in sales, creating a surplus of organic milk.

I have never bought it or even looked at the price, but am told that Organic Milk sells for about $7 a gallon.  I know we have one farm, Walter Berthiaume who now owns Darryl Ovitts Old Farm on Route 104 near Brick Church Road.  Don't know who Walter sells his milk to, but I am sure it will have an effect on him.  One farmer stated that he was feeding hay and less grain as a way of reducing his quota.
