Title: Finally Winter Starts At 12:47 PM Today
Post by: Henry on December 21, 2009, 09:03:10 AM
Today is the first day of winter!  The winter solstice is at 12:47 PM.

We missed out on the massive snowstorm that pummelled most of the big cities along the eastern seaboard over the weekend with heavy snow and strong wind.  The storm is now well out to sea, but it is kicking back a band of clouds that will hang over our heads for the next few days.  A few snow showers will fall out of those clouds, mainly in our north-central and northeastern areas.

It will still remain much colder than average, with high temperatures only in the teens and low 20s for the next couple of days.  Our average high this time of year in Burlington is 31 degrees.

We will finally warm up to near normal levels by Christmas Eve day and Christmas day.  Both of those days will be quiet.  But a potent storm system coming out of the midwest will catch up to us Friday night and into the weekend with a messy mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain.
