Title: Waiting For My Clock
Post by: Henry on January 20, 2010, 09:43:25 AM
Back in 1982, I received a beautiful Seth Thomas Wall Clock as a Quarter Century Gift from IBM.  It has hung proudly on my wall in the living room since then.  Last spring it stopped on me and my regular clock repair person told me that he could fix it but it wouldn't last and was not interested in repairing it and told me I should go out and purchase an antique clock.

The clock has tremendous sentimental value to me, so I decided I would bring it home and hang it on the wall, even though it was not running.  At the urging of Maryann, I contacted a fellow IBM Retired Toolmaker who now repairs clocks and he took a look at it and told me he could repair it.  He told me he had 3 to 6 months backlog so it would not be an immediate thing.

He sent me an e-mail last month and told me he had it repaired and it was running in his shop and he wanted to make sure everything was fine.  He called me Monday and is delivering the clock to me this forenoon.  I can't wait to see that familiar old clock up on the wall behind my TV.

These clocks have to be set by the tick tock you hear so they will keep running.  You just move them a bit one way or the other until you get the right sound.  Unfortunately my hearing is not good enough to hear the tick tock.  They do have amplifiers that help you hear, and I may have to resort to that someday if I can call on this guy to come up and do that.

What a great day today is - My clock is back, truly a cherished item.  Mert Esmond, who is a retired toolmaker from IBM delivered it to me around 10:45 this morning - He is a very talented man.

Mert is shown above checking the tick tock with his amplifier

Now it little knudge to the right to balance the tick tock

And here we are, two old IBM retirees and as you can see, Mert is in tip top physical shape even though a couple years older than I am.  He has given me the name of his physical trainer at the Hammer Fit.
