I heard the Fire & Rescue called out earlier this morning when I was in bed for a car that had hit a tree on the Buck Hollow Road, with apparently minor injuries. I went back to sleep. Were the back roads slippery?
-
Henry,
I drove by the accident this morning at 8:30. A State Police Officer was directing traffic & waiting for the wrecker to arrive. The accident involved a silver Ford Ranger. That had slid on the icy roads and hit a tree. The truck landed at a 90 degree angle to the road with the back section of his truck covering half of the traveled lane. This section of road where the accident happened is just beyond Village View Road. The section of road in question sheltered by the shade of large trees on each side. There was a ice on the road. It did appear as though sand and salt were on the road, but I have no way of knowing when it was put down. There was a second car, but I was not able to see if it had sustained damage.
Coming back through at 9:00 the cars had been towed away. Looks like in the direction of Fairfield. At this same time the Franklin County Sheriff was just showing up, only to find nothing to process. I would be curious to know what time the tones went out from dispatch for fire to respond. When I passed by fire had come and gone.

Fire and Rescue were dispatched approximatly 7:10am and both agencies were clear of the scene within 30 minutes.

I would expect that they need to prioritize Dave. Although I was half asleep, I believe the dispatcher said there were no injuries, although I guess at my age I would hate to wait around that long for someone to arrive.
-
Henry,
Yes, you are right about priorities. I am sure the guy needed the report to file a claim with his insurance. I was not being critical, just reporting the facts.
-
You are right Dave, it is always better to have it for you insurance claim.
-
As Justin can attest to, if there are no reported injuries or property damage (other than the vehicle involved), many times law enforcement won't rush to the scene. They will first attending to more critical calls.
-
The reported call came in before the sheriff's dept was on duty. Therefore, as always the call would default to the state police to investigate.
-
There is all of this reporting of drivers and automobiles, but where is the update of the poor tree? That tree didn't asked to be hit. As Vermonters, we should care more about environment and less on individuals who are unable to drive safely.
(someone please pick up on my sarcasm)

Unfortunately Drew, the tree may not make it. It stood proud for several years but apparently this may just be it's time. I'm sure it will be put to good use, perhaps as firewood to heat someone's home. Maybe as a log for a nice campfire this summer. Possibly it will give shelter to wildlife. Or it could be that it's destined to again become one with the earth and provide nutrients for it's offspring. We just may never know.
Thanks for caring.

But isn't burning it polluting the air with dangerous carbons, therefore an environmental hazard and no longer "green" as in its previous state of existence?
Will not half of the scenarios you have outlined for said tree spark yet more controversy for this already overburdened forum of righteous do-gooders? :-)

If it was a free range tree as opposed to a "tree farm" tree wouldn't it have less pollutants from not being fed tree steroids, hence a "greener" burning tree? Has anyone else invested in Al Gore's palm tree/orange groves in Maine? It is the investment of the future!
