Title: The High Cost Of Dying
Post by: Henry on February 16, 2010, 08:45:34 AM
Not sure it is appropriate, but wonder if any of you have noticed two obituaries that have appeared in The Burlington Free Press.  The obituary for Michael S. Abrams is scheduled to be Published in The Burlington Free Press from January 30 to February 28, 2010 and a Memorium for Robert B. McLure is scheduled to be Published in The Burlington Free Press from January 31 to February 28, 2010.

It must of cost whoever is paying for this a mint, if any of you aware of what it cost to publish an obituary in The Burlington Free Press.

Not sure what the BFP charges, but when my grandfather passed away this past summer, it was almost $200 to run his obit. in a couple of Northern NY papers that are owned by one parent company. We decided to pay the fee to help get the word out to all who knew him that we didn't think to contact direct.

We also utilized a free, limited length posting in another classifieds paper, and a free notice on one of the local radio stations.

Thankfully, there are still some business out there willing to provide a needed public service, and not turn someone's loss into a profit opportunity.

Henry,
It is the PRINT "news" papers dying.
I get the Anchorage Daily Worker on the internet. Mao had it so good!

Papers cannot compete with the INSTANT technology.

I was reading an article on line on our net book and all of a sudden I REALIZED I was headed to the bathroom...............
I left the net book out of the WC.......What IF I would have dropped it in the toilet?

Ed,

I do not want to see what you'd charge for a call to Anchorage.

I'd let you KEEP the netbook though.
