DOROTHY BOUCHARD VERCHEREAU

 SOUTH BURLINGTON - Dorothy Anne Bouchard Verchereau passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston. She was born in Burlington, Vt. on Aug. 19, 1930 the daughter of the late Leon Gustave Bouchard and Stella Marie Cardinal. After graduating from Mount St. Mary's Academy in Burlington, she worked several years for the New England Telephone Company. During that time she began her study of voice with Gloria Grandy and Dr. William Tortolano. Dorothy was married on Oct. 7, 1950 to Emile "Mike" Verchereau. They were married for 59 years. He predeceased her on Jan. 23, 2010. She was a member of the St. Michael's Oratorio Society and the St. Joseph's Choir in Burlington. Dorothy performed in concerts which included a number of solos as well as singing for numerous weddings over her lifetime. She was also a member of St. Anthony's parish. Her lyric soprano voice will be with us all forever. Dorothy's primary interests were her family, friends, home, music and grandchildren. Her faith sustained her during the past decade of ill health. Her home was always open and welcoming with large gatherings of friends and family enjoying her culinary and gardening skills. We all knew her for her hospitality, grace and enduring kindness. Dorothy is survived by her six children; Karen and her husband Bill Whitby of So. Burlington, and their children Derrick and Alyssa; Amy and her husband Jason Bell of Fairfax, and their children Lydia and James; Jan M. Verchereau of So. Burlington; Linda V. Becker of Montpelier and her son Chandra; Anthony Verchereau and his wife Jane of Milton and their daughter Jazmine; Gregory Verchereau and his wife Ha Tran of So. Burlington and their children Dylan, Jack, Allie, and Bryce; and her beloved chichagua, Mozart. She is also survived by her sister Jeanette and husband William Rochford of So. Burlington, and her brother Ronald and wife Antoinette Bouchard of Shelburne. She was predeceased by her sister Marie Blaise. The family gratefully acknowledges the support, skill, and love demonstrated from the staff at The Vermont Respite House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, Burlington with interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, So. Burlington. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Ln., Williston, Vt. 05495.
