A fire forced at least four Swanton families out of their homes this evening. It happened at about a quarter after six at an apartment complex on Merchants row. Firefighters say residents noticed smoke coming out of the basement of the building and called 911. The fire quickly spread to five apartments in the building. Several were occupied at the time -- but everyone managed to escape. No word on the cause of that blaze.

Another? That section of Swanton has had many many fires over the years.  I recall another bad fire there when I was young.
