Francis E. “Frank” Sheltra

Fletcher - Francis Eli “Frank” Sheltra, 93 passed away at Starr Farm Nursing Home in Burlington on Monday April 12, 2010.  He was born in Fairfax, VT on November 27, 1916 son of the late Eli and Lillian (Cherrier) Sheltra.  He had served his country well as a First Class Seaman during WWII   He had been employed as a carpenter for various heavy construction projects including building dams on the St. Lawrence Seaway and in the tunnels of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.  He also proudly served as a Deputy Sheriff for Franklin County.  He had many stories to share with whom ever would listen.  Fishing in the North East Kingdom was his greatest enjoyment. 

He is survived by:  His son Ronald Sheltra of FL;  His seven daughters:  Nancy Ladd and husband Robert of Fletcher;  Donna Reynolds and husband Philip of Cambridge;  Betsy Taylor of St. Albans;  Sandra Coburn and husband Roger of Belvidere;  Gail Mitchell and husband Richard of Beverly Hills, FL;  Kathy Terpstra and husband Bryon of Reading, PA;  Dawn Rabideau and husband Garry of Fairfax;  His sister in law Aleita Chapman of Plainville CT;  Thirty-Two Grandchildren;  Sixty-Six Great Grandchildren;   Thirty-One Great Great Grandchildren;  Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also predeceased by:  His loving wife of 70 years Reba (Foss) Sheltra; his brothers:  Clifford; Raymond; Clayton, sisters:  Viola Morgan, Alberta Tinker and brother-in-law Alton Foss. Also, by a granddaughter Peggy Reynolds in 1994.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Starr Farm Nursing Home and dedicated staff for all their care.

There will be no visiting hours held.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel.  Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions in Frank’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495-1460.  Arrangements are by John D.
