A man is facing multiple charges for allegedly trying to kill his girlfriend.
South Burlington Police say it happened around 10:30 Sunday night when they received reports of someone screaming near Red Rocks Park. On the edge of the park they say they found a man assaulting a woman.
After taking 53-year-old William Craig into custody, police say they learned he allegedly physically restrained his girlfriend, repeatedly slammed her head into the ground, tried to choke her with a stick and tried to suffocate her by pushing mud and dirt in her mouth and nose.
Craig is being held for lack of $100,000 bail.
