Police say upset former student causes disturbance in St. Albans
An 18 year old woman of Enosburg was accused Friday of entering her former school, Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans, assaulting a staff member and creating a disturbance, police said in a news release.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on the school's south campus when Ovitt assaulted the employee, pulled a fire alarm, threw books and overturned trash cans, authorities said. Police described her as an "upset" former student.
She was apprehended later during a traffic stop on Upper Welden Street; she is due June 30 in Vermont District Court in St. Albans to answer charges of disorderly conduct, simple assault and false public alarm. Later, her mother called the school and made statements that were interpreted as potential threats, then came to the school but left without incident, police said.
School officials and police stepped up their presence at BFA the rest of the day.
