Title: JoAnne Captures Some Huge Wasps Nests In North Fairfax
Post by: Henry on August 19, 2010, 07:01:15 PM
Hi Henry,
I don't know how fast these nests get built, but I noticed these two wasps nests for the first time, today. The one on the power pole, attached to the transformer(first 2 pictures) was about 20 feet up. It was on the corner of Pilon Rd and Bessette Rd in North Fairfax.
The second one was on Wagner Rd and was only about 4 feet off the ground attached to a tree branch.

Henry     Just read an article whereby many individuals in Urban Areas are keeping Wasp Spray available to them to use as as a weapon during a crime spree involving a home or business break-in, burglary , etc., rather then pepper spray , due to it's longer ejection stream ( typically 20' as opposed to 10' ) and longer-lasting effect on the eyes, should one be hit in that area by the stream. More accurate then pepper spray also, I guess. Still think a .44 magnum might be a better persuader though..................... for critters and bad guys.  I would definitely not fool around with that cage though, spray or no spray !!!

working at smugglers notch resort we get many calls during the summer months for wasp nests at the condos. we have some pretty bad stuff for them this year, i don't think i would like getting it in the face. i see what it does to the wasps. probably make your eyeballs fall right out of there sockets. the nest on the power pole looks like mud wasps, they can be very nasty.

I always heard as a kid that if the nest are high in the tree, it will be a high snow fall winter.  I wonder how that old tale applies here - one nest at 20 ft, one at 4???
