Despite what you may have heard on the news, the Fairfax Community Library does not have solar eclipse viewing glasses to give away. We will have an Eclipse Viewing Party here at the Library on Monday 8/21 from 1-3 p.m., and we have some eclipse viewing glasses for participants to use then. Please join us! NASA has an entire website devoted to this event! Look in the Safety section under Eclipse 101 for a list of reputable vendors. Given the late date, we suggest people make solar viewing projectors, pinhole projections, or sun funnels to view the eclipse. To see NASA's great website about eclipses and safe viewing, go to eclipse2017.nasa.gov.Also, the NASA site will be streaming the eclipse so you can view it safely on your computer. We will have thestream up on our large screen here!

The Library is installing some new shelves next week and we have a number of "old" ones that still need new homes. Each section is 72" high, 58" long and the base is 24" wide. The shelves are 5" deep, except for the bottom shelf which is 11.5" deep. If you are interested please call the Library at 849-2420 with your name, contact info, and how many you are interested in taking. You will need to transport them. We are selling these fairly cheaply, price to be determined, or make a reasonable offer. We would prefer to have them picked up by August 25.

We'd hoped to be open half a day Wednesday but are informed that the parking lot and sidewalk will not be clear yet, which is not surprising! So the Library (and the school BTW) will be closed all day on Wed. March 15th. Stay safe and see you Thursday!
