Current News & Events / The Morning After
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:43:37 AM »
The Lamoille River has dropped quite a bit, but is still very high. I took these pictures around 11:30 Thursday morning.

Debris on a Maple Street lawn from Wednesday.

Still over the Rec Path.

The debris is the high spot from yesterday, and the current height.

At least you can get ON the Rec Path now.

I got home for supper at 6, and headed down to the river with my camera.
Seriously, people, I have NEVER seen the river this high. it is backfilling in to the wetlands just below my property line, and it even has gone over the bank next to the cellar hole. I went down Maple Street, and Margie showed up with her Beetle, and we headed up 104 towards Cambridge. We got as far as just before the Woodworking school. The driveway we turned around in had water on both sides.

Current News & Events / Lamoille River Still Rising as of 1PM-Photos

The water level was the other side of the tree on the left at 11am.

This is the top of the bank next to the willow tree in the celler hole. Regular water level to the top of the bank is 7-8 feet. It's now inches below the top of the bank.

The picnic table was not in the water before.

The Mill Brook Island is now being covered with water.

Cutting crosslots to get to Steeple Market is no longer an option.

At 9am, Jose and I walked through here. This picture was taken at 11am. The water level is higher now than the last flooding a couple of weeks ago.

Current News & Events / 2011 Big Truck Day Pictures
« on: April 23, 2011, 11:23:41 AM »
Not a great day for the Annual Big Truck Day. Rainy, windy, and not as many trucks as in years past. I did take some pictures of some of the ones that were there. Fairfax Rescue had their ambulance there, but left shortly after I got there to go to a call.

Pictures of the Day

The Lamoille River. Still high, wide, and fast moving.

This area is my gauge on the height of the river. When the water spills over the bank into this little dip, I know the water is over the road in Cambridge and the Wrong-Way Bridge is closed. As you can see, Wednesday morning, the bridge was probably still closed.

The same area Tuesday morning.

Rec Path, around 9am.

Had to take Jose to the vet. These two pictures are next to the bridge as you head into Jeffersonville.

High Water
These were taken mid-morning Monday, before the water got higher.

Notice the little one in front looking at me. Tried for a closer shot, but it ran off.

A very full and fast moving Lamoille River.

Dean Reynolds is the Vice-President of the Empire Super Sprints and does a lot of public relations. Lately he has been putting up pictures on Facebook in anticipation of the upcoming ESS season. Monday, he put up Anthony's picture and caption.

The likeable pilot from New England is getting ready for another year on the Lucas Oil ESS circuit. While the plan is always race to race with the Lonnie Lacaillade owned mount, the hopes are the full tour and also his first ever ESS A-Main victory!

Uncle Mike's Thoughts Of The Day / Blog- Where the heck have I been?
« on: March 24, 2011, 10:42:16 PM »
Friday March 25, 2011

Hello!
Remember me?
I used to have a Picture of the Day just about everyday.
But winter has hung on and I haven't taken any pictures of anything of real interest, so this space has been kinda quiet.

Unfortunately, there has been another reason.
This kidney disease has been taking it's toll on me.
Right now, my kidneys are filtering the toxins in my body at about 10% and probably less.
Imagine your car's oil filter or gas filter only filtering 10% of whatever gunk is in your oil or gas. What would your car be like? Kinda logey.
That's me.
Some days I have no ambition what so ever, and it takes a lot of effort just to do the normal routine.
I have trouble crawling out of bed in the morning, and for the most part, the couch is very inviting.
But I trudge on because I think if I stay active, I can stave off being on dialysis. That's the last thing I want to do.
As I was talking to one of the nurses down at the doctor's office, who, by the way, had a kidney transplant herself, she summed it up best. You have good days and bad days, but never GREAT days.
I think the weather may have something to do with it. Last Sunday morning, it was really nice out and sunny. I headed out and went down Hunt Street in back of the school as far as I could go. Felt tired afterwards, but it felt good to do that.
To stay on the transplant list and because I just turned 50, I had to have a colonoscopy. The less said about THAT ordeal, the better, although I guess it turned out OK.
And I had another cortozone shot in my left knee, so I am dealing with my usual knee problems as well.

So in the end, I'm still here, just plugging along best I can.
And when something interesting pops up, like dandelions, I'll post some pictures.

Item is 12-14 inches square at the wooden base. Top part is the cover. Middle part is white glass. Bottom part has a mirror.  Yes, there is a little drawer at the bottom in the base. What is it?
