After seeing the Winter Storm Warnings and cusulting with society members, the Fairfax Historical Society Meeting scheduled for Sunday March 6th at 6:30 has been POSTPONED until next Sunday March 13th at 6:30pm in the Fairfax Community Library.
From the looks of the snowfall prediction map on WCAX, all of Franklin County is in the 8-16 inches area. Usually we are on the edge of a lesser amount, like 4-8 inches, and the higher amount that encompasses Fletcher and Cambridge, like 12-16 inches. As you can see below, this time we are in the solid purple color. At his time, I want to thank everyone for playing our "What Is It?" game. I apologize, but I still will not post the correct answers until after the meeting next week. I am hoping to get some pictures of items that people bring in and I will post those the following week.

Sunday night March 6th at 6:30pm, the Fairfax Historical Society will be having a meeting at the Fairfax Community Library. The program for the evening will be 'What Is It?". With advances in technology and engineering, many work, farming, and household items are now obsolete. People are invited to bring in items so everyone can guess What Is It? The public is invited to attend.
This week, I will post some pictures of some of the things we will be looking at and trying to guess what it was used for back in the day.
Today, we look at yet another item we have on display at the museum.
NOTE: We will not be posting the correct answers here until after the meeting Sunday evening.

OK, I'm going to be the fall guy for the PA system because I was the one who set it up. I don't know what happened, but all was working when I checked it Friday afternoon. I was sitting on the far end of the gym, and did not know the speaker farthest from me was not working until the town portion of the meeting was underway. I did some quick re-wiring during a break and both speakers were working. We at the school have a problem of microphones disappearing. At one time, I had enough microphones, so that there was one for the moderater, one for the head table, one for the person doing a presentation, and one for the audience at the podium at the back of the room. Friday I was all over the school looking for anything that would work. I ended up with only two microphones-one for the moderator and one for the head table/presenter, and used a wireless system for the audience podium. Had I known the speaker wasn't working during the school portion, I would have tried to fix it then. And then to make matters worse, the batteries in the wireless died during the town presentation. I did not have my keys with me, and didn't have the means to get fresh ones. I did spot the custodian on duty later, and he went and got some new batteries, so I was able to get that working again.
I sincerely apologize for the screw-up. I take pride in my job, and take it personal if things don't go right. I understand a letter was written to the selectboard with a complaint about the soundsystem. I am sorry. I hope before the next town meeting, the school can get some new mics and we can have a secure place to store and keep track of the things so that they will be there when I need them when it's time to set things up.
I am very sorry all this happened. I hope we can make sure it doesn't happen again.

Tuesday February 22, 2011 Picture of the DayThe front page of the Daytona Beach News Journal Monday morning.MY ADVENTURE WITH FANTASY RACINGThe Shrewsbury Fire Department have an annual NASCAR Fantasy Racing league. Usually they advertise in the Racin' Paper. This year they sent forms to different fire departments, and Fairfax was one of them. I had thought of trying it out before, and this year gave it a go. You have $10,000. Drivers are assigned values from $2,200(Jimmie Johnson) to $400 for someone like Casey Mears. You pick 8 drivers, no more, no less, and you total has to be ten grand or less. My eight drivers are: Denny Hamlin Kevin Harvick Kyle Busch David Reutimann Juan Pablo Montoya Kasey Kahne Brad Keselowski Brian Vickers. I took three top ten drivers, three mid pack guys, and 2 backmarkers. I was trying for drivers who were consistant and competitive. I jinxed Harvick, who blew, Hamlin had problems, Reutimenn caused the big one, and only two guys finished in the top ten. But it's a long season so anything is possible. Although right now, I am 752nd in the standings. Long season indeed.

22 years ago, we lost Mom.
Well, race fans, here we go! Spring is almost here as Sunday is the Daytona 500! Who do you think will win? A few people think it's fixed for TV and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will win to mark his father's fatal wreck 10 years ago. This will provide big headlines and exposure and be a shot in the arm for NASCAR. I think it will be a crapshoot and ANYBODY can win it. All you have to do is be in the right place at the right time, be it Michael Waltrip or Joey Logano. I'm going with Tony Stewart. Here's hoping!
Here's the starting line-up. Who is your pick?
