General Discussion / Re: Snack survey in Fairfax?
« on: July 01, 2011, 05:37:58 PM »
My wife just informed me that a silver minivan with two guys stopped by our house in North Fairfax and offered a basket of goodies if she would listen to their presentation.  She didn't get the license plate number and wasn't enticed enough by the free cheeze-its to allow him in.  Oh well.  I've since instructed her to answer the door with the Glock from now on :)

Tickets will be available 9-3 Monday-Friday at the town office (with the exception of July 4) as well as Thursday the 7th and the 14th from 6-8pm.

$12 for an adult ticket, which allows two children to get in for free.

Two showtimes, 5:30 pm and 7:30pm.

Sorry Mike- they were already booked.  Although I wonder if there are any local orchestras that would want to recreate Metallica's "Symphony and Metallica" album?  THAT was amazing!

Adult tickets are $12 and two children can get in free with every adult- free children's tickets are available all over the place, including at the town office.

We opened up sales this morning at 9:00 at the town office, but still have plenty left for both the 5:30 and 7:30 performances!

Henry, WCAX runs a website known as "Vermontopia" which lists current events, has a classified section, etc.  One of the components of that site is the "Jump On It" program (very similar to the popular "Groupon" website).  Every day a different deal is present, and only for a 24 hour period.  They work with businesses from all over Vermont (though historically they've been within close proximity to Burlington) to offer discount "coupons", usually a 50% off deal.  You pay up front just like any other on-line purchase and receive an email link to a certificate with a unique code.  In this case, you would pay $10 and get a certificate that you would print out worth $20.  Quite often there is a requirement that there is no cash refund if you don't spend the full amount, so if your total only comes to $18 the merchant keeps the remainder.  I've used this several times and saved money at Apollo Diner, St. Albans Drive In, Edible Arrangements, the VT Brew Tour, and many other places.

Jump On It: http://wcax.upickem.net/engine/Splash.aspx?contestid=17178 (I think this link works)

Once you place your order you will also be provided with a link that your friends can use to access the daily deal.  If a specific number of people (usually 4 but it depends on the offer) use your link and order you'll get your initial purchase free!

Cat, can you clarify something?  The first post says "$20 of groceryitems".  Does this include prepared meals, drinks, coffee, beer, pizza?  I see that tobacco and gas are excluded but didn't notice anything else. Thanks!

That's great to hear that you're enjoying it Cindy!  The summer concert series is sponsored by the Fairfax library and the Fairfax Parks & Rec Dept.  From what I understand the library put together the programming and Margo Rome was instrumental in applying for the grant.  There is another post somewhere on here listing which bands will be around on which dates.  I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Henry, Perhaps you should post a photo of when you graduated :)

Cool.  I'll give them a call and see if I can upgrade.  Thanks!

Fletch, which Globalnet tower are you running off of?  I'm pointing toward the Essex one and when I hooked up last year the best they could do was "about 3.0" but they said that was purely because of the equipment installed there and that they were hoping to upgrade.  I'm curious if that happened...

Congratulations! What kind of speeds are you getting? (www.speedtest.net)

I'm glad you made it over there, Henry!  Those sure look good, I haven't gotten any yet...
