Current News & Events / Quick Question
« on: March 19, 2010, 04:01:50 PM »
Hi Everyone.  I just have a quick question since the town offices are closed for the weekend.  Does anyone know if zoning requirements in Fairfax dictate that a bedroom must have a closet to be considered a bedroom?  If a bedroom does not have a closet is it considered an office or den?  Thanks for your help.

Current News & Events / Re: The Last Time You Were In Steeple Market
« on: December 26, 2008, 07:41:34 PM »
I have a nice story I would like to share about being in the Steeple Market on Tuesday Morning...  I was in line to check out and as she is every day, Mary was at the register.  The man ahead of me won $20 on a scratch ticket so he told Mary what new tickets he would like to purchase with the winnings.  He bought $15.00 dollars worth of tickets and told Mary to take the last $5.00 and purchase some for herself... and wished her a Merry Christmas.  I hope she won some money.

Although I will really miss strolling for dinner at the Steeple Market... and especially the mac-n-cheese...it's really seeing Mary that I will miss the most and her fabulous sense of humor!!  So if you're reading this Mary... The very best of luck to you and we will miss you!  You've made a lot of people smile...

Hi Henry.  Last night around 10 pm someone hit my husband's truck in the Parking lot at Minor's store.  It caused quite a bit of damage to the passenger side.  We didn't notice it until the following morning because it was on the passenger side and left alot of silver/white paint on the truck.  The person who did this left without notifying anyone.

Video footage shows what looks like a 4-door Ford Focus next to the truck at the same time and is the same color.  This vehicle would obviously have some damage to it and possibly black paint.  If anyone has any information, please email us at wearetheschmidts@earthlink.net

Thanks so much.

Mr. Lang,

I'm glad to see your second letter had less typo's than the first.  Actually, Richard Cate, the Commissioner of Education for Vermont, is quoted as saying that these tests are not hard and contain very basic information (Burlington Free Press).  The same article declares that each state is able to pick which assessment to use (my apologies for saying school district previously).  He calls for a sweeping change of the state's education system because students are obviously not learning.

It's amazing how you can quote statistics that are in your favor but so many excuses are given when they are not.  The fact remains that the information given in these tests should have been taught the previous year and students should have been given help to learn it if they were having difficulties.  Thank you for bringing to the attention of all parents that there are actual standards that should be met.  They can be found on the state department's website and are listed by grade level.  I encourage every parent to make sure your child is on track with these.

I completely disagree.  These tests hold the school accountable.  The school district was even able to choose the type of test to administer.  These tests were not difficult.  It was all very basic learning that the students had the entire past school year before the test to master and/or get help with.  Although I agree that students have different learning styles, these tests shouldn't have been the most taxing if they knew the information.

Not every teacher is communicative with parents either.  Test results help many of us to see where our child may need help.  If your child is college bound it is unreasonable to think that the tests they will have there will be skewed.  They will have to get over "test anxiety" and know the information if they want to graduate.  It's part of life.

Henry,

This looks like Porkchop who lives on Goosepond Rd.  He belongs to the Trono's  (according to a sign on the house where he always comes from).  Porkchop follows everyone everyday and is a great dog.  He always wears a collar with his owners number on it so it's unusual that he doesn't have it on.  Please let us know if Porkchop made it home safe.
