The Shaw family lived on the Sam Webb Road in Fairfax for a number of years and they attended school in Fairfax.

If this article comes up in March people should be aware:
By State Statue towns are required to maintain town highways therefore are allowed to include capital purchases for town highway equipment in their budget.
Schools are not required to provide transportation for students therefore should include any capital purchases such as a school bus as a warned item versus in the regular budget. However, the interpretation of a capital purchase can be some what of a gray area.
When you vote on Town Meeting budgets and articles are for current expenses for the fiscal year. You should not write an article that would include items for future years such as approve buses to be purchases for the year 2012, 2013 ,2014 and etc. and be added to the budgets for those years. This was done a few years ago and deemed to be inappropriate.

This additional tax rate is applied to all tax bills, some of these taxpayers are disabled, low income, have high medical expenses etc. This additional rate does not qualify for the Property Tax Rebate. What may be helping one group of people is a burden on others just as needy.
Perhaps the Veteran's employer, the US Government, should provide them with the benefits and services they need and have earned.

Henry is correct. School Street started as a private right across private property from Main Street to the School House which was in the middle of what is now School Street. There were restrictions on exactly where the students could walk to get to the school. At some point the school was moved, the right of way became a Town Highway and the road was extended to Hunt Street. This was a very common thing for a school house to be built on private property with a right of way for the students to walk to the school. Schools did not own the property under them or surrounding them.

What ever issue Deb Markowitz is referring too, it does not accurately reflex the relationship between the Selectboard and the Clerk/Treasurer here in Fairfax.

I was in the position of Fairfax Clerk/Treasurer for 20 years. The Selectboard and Clerk/Treasurer positions are set up to be a check and balance of each other. There are 5 Selectboard members, if everyone on the Selectboard had the same opinion or the same ideas there would be no need for Five, there could be just one . In addition to the Selectboard the Clerk/Treasurer also has information and can share ideas and information with the board. Many times we call the Secretary of State for information and then share it Because we call the Sec of State does not mean there is a conflict. We discuss the information, ideas and opinions in a amicably and professional manner. If the final decision was the Selectboards, I had respect for that , the Selectboard in turn had respect for decisions that were mine. I feel my relationship with the Boards was probably better than most towns in Vt. Not everything was perfect all the time and the news media could construe things inaccurately. I feel Deb's comment was unfair to the people of Fairfax, the Board and the Clerk,Treasurer. It is without merit. I retired and the new Clerk/treasurer has a good working relationship with the board. We have enhanced drivers license. The state sent a replacement license and we returned the license that had an error.

I believe we did have occasions when the cows got into too many apples and were considered drunk. They don't give much milk when that happens, it did not make the farmers happy. These modern day free stall cows that don't get to go out into the pasture don't know what their missing!

We had a peach apple tree on the farm where I grew up on Cherrierville Road. As kids, we would carry a homemade salt shaker in our back pocket, climb the tree and feast on green apples, (this was before they ripened) We didn't care for them once they ripened but my mom made applesauce. The tree was behind the barn so no apples on the lawn to contend with, the cows cleaned up the mess.

There is no such place as Sunrise Daycare in Fairfax Vermont. Advertisements made an error and stated it was in Fairfax, Vermont but it is located in Fairfax , Virginia. Just one of those little Bloopers.
