Current News / Suspicious activity
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:23:01 AM »
All,

Below is a series of emails regarding some suspicious activity/break ins that have been occurring in Westford and posted from the Front Porch Forum.  Be alert for any suspicious vehicles that may be in the area and on some of our back roads that don't look like they belong.   The suspicious cars that have been seen are a red Honda Civic and a silver/black pickup.  If you see unusual activity jot down plate numbers or snap a quick picture with your phone and report it to the police.  It may be nothing, or it may be the key that law enforcement is looking for to tie a case together.

Hi,
Thank you for posting the suspicious car seen on Woods Hollow. On Monday morning
of this past week I saw the red car setting at the end of Phelps road. No one was in it. The position and location of the car seemed suspicious to me also. In addition to this, I saw a pickup truck parked down the road 1/4 of a mile parked with a male driver. Curiosity did make me think what could be going on.
Of course this past Monday it was super hot 87 degrees.  The truck had it's window down, so I assume no AC. I thought maybe the pickup was a spy to let the red car person know if someone was to approach.
But what was even more bizarre was I got to Westford Village and there was a blue car parked on Common Road with a male driver with his window down. I assume no AC also. But at 87 degrees it's got to be hot setting there.  I couldn't figure out what was going on, if anything. Just odd
The only reason I took the back roads was because of the paving on Rte 128.Westford folks,
  Be aware

Later my wife told me this car was sitting just down from our house two months ago with a male driver. She walked by with the dog and spoke with a neighbor who said the car had been there 2 days in a row.The neighbor said it loud enough to my wife, that the police should be called as the car looked suspicious. Loud enough for the driver to hear. When he heard that he drove off.
Apparently, the day I saw these vehicles on Phelps road, they had numerous breakins.  If only people would communicate this, they would have been caught.

Hi,
I have heard from someone with a friend in law enforcement that the red Honda civic and a silver/black pickup belong to the same folks and they are known to be trouble makers.
It would not surprise me if that other car on the common was somehow involved, just as the pan handlers in Burlington are networked and spreading out into surrounding communities so too are the folks who are struggling to support a drug habit and unfortunately our sleepy little trusting town is an easy target.
I think you should post your sightings to FPF and report the activity to the State Police.
If you are not comfortable posting your observation to FPF, I would be happy to do it for you, if you wish.
Also, the fire warden is contacting the State Police to see what is involved in establishing a "Neighborhood Watch."
It bothers me to think we need to start locking our houses and making note of cars and strangers we see in our neighborhood but I think this problem is going to get worse before it gets better and we best get a jump on it.
Ill keep you posted on the NW.  And next time you travel the dirt roads and come across parked cars/trucks try to get the plate number... cars with plate numbers gives the state police something to take action on.
Best case scenario is that we organise and get the word out... world travels back to the druggie community that Westford is organised and actively watching and they decide to do their stealing some place else.
Thanks for sharing"

I copied this from the Front Porch Forum from yesterday and today.  Messages were from State Rep Martha Heath.

I have been hearing from folks who have gotten flat tires while driving through the Route 128 construction site. The Agency of Transportation says claims can be sent to:
Frank W. Whitcomb Construction Corporation****
187 Whitcomb Road****
Walpole, NH 03608**** (Telephone: 603-445-5555) Copies of receipts should be included.
In addition here is the response I received from AOT when I asked about the completion date for the project. The end is in sight....hopefully!!!
I have been told the contractors are working diligently to get the project stabilized by the first of November. Moreover, the worst problem areas *should* be resolved sooner. Once the cement operation is complete the flat tires/rough road should be a non issue. They are aiming (weather permitting) to begin the cement work next week, and this activity will probably run for another week. Hopefully by mid October the most difficult part should be over.****"

Hello again. After I posted yesterday about Route 128 I started to think about AOT's use of the word stabilized and asked them some more questions.
They report that the project has been more involved than they anticipated. They expect the contractor to put down some layers of pavement before November 1st but they will be finishing the project with more paving sometime in the spring/summer. So....it won't be completely finished but you should be driving on a surface far superior to what is there at the moment. Martha"

If you tested for Lyme only at the local hospitals, they may have missed it.  My daughter went two years with symptoms they could not figure out and said it was all in her head.  Finally went to a specialist in Lyme Disease.  New test, sent to California lab and confirmed as Lyme.  Next problem is that insurance companies will not pay for the continued treatment that is needed for Lyme.

I don't believe Vermont has a helicopter.  Those markings appear to be New Hampshire State Police.

Current News & Events / Re: Are You Missing Two GOATS??
« on: December 13, 2009, 08:43:37 AM »
This may be the owner of the goats.  I have called and left her a message.  This was on the Westford Front Porch Forum

"SEEKING MISSING GOATS!
"This is no joke, I've lost two of my goats on Friday, December 11th. Both are female dairy goats, one white Sanaan and the other is a brown Nubian. Last seen near Huntley rd in Westford. I think they may have been spooked off my property by some coyotes. Both were wearing collars.

Please call me at 752-7311 if anyone has seen them."

My brother is on St. Albans Fire, and saw the glow on the hill in the morning.  As he was heading up to check on it, he followed Westford Fire up to it.  It was at the former Ronnie Kilburn place on the top of #11 Road.  Not sure who owns it now.
He ended up helping WFD until mutual aid arrived.

There definitely is a lot of info to go through regarding Part D medicare coverage.  I help my mother take care of her affairs, and have had to deal with the large volume of insurance literature.  I used the following web site that really made it easier to understand:  http://www.medicare.gov/Default.asp    It allows you to compare all the various plans out there.  The one that seemed to work best allows you to list all of your current prescriptions.  It than lists each company, cost for the plan and how much they cover for each script.  It also lists a customer satisfaction rating.  It allowed me to make a better decision for her insurance coverage.

Don't rush to judge on this.  Having been a police officer, I can tell you that it is a scary situation to have a car run from you.  Many things go through your mind.  Such as why are they running. What have they done that I don't know about yet.  You must also decide if you should continue the pursuit. Public saftey must be formost in your mind.  You need to take into consideration time of day, traffic volume, road conditions, weather, the reason you are trying to stop the car, etc.  This officer clearly had been called to this area for concerns of residents about an underage party, an accident had already occurred in the neighborhood.
Had the officer elected not to go after this car and it was later involved in this accident.  There still would have been a public outcry as to why he had not gone after the car. As an officer you are constantly under scrutiny for your actions.  Many times you are in a catch 22.  With training and experience you know what and when things need action taken on.
Pursuits are not taken lightly in police departments.  There are strict policies dealing with a pursuit.  There is also oversight by supervisers.  Either the officer or the supervisor can terminate the pusuit if they feel the risks outweigh the benefits.  This pursuit lasted less than two minutes before the crash.  That is not much time when you are trying to process and communicate all of this information to dispatch, fellow officers, supervisors and operate your car safely.
This is a very unfortunate situation for all involved. Those involved and survivors have to live with this for the rest of their lives. Too often people are quick to blame the police for their actions.  What about the responsibilty that the driver had to obey the laws, the police and take into consideration the safety of not only themself, but six other passengers in a car that was not built for that many people or those kind of speeds.  The other individuals in the car also had the responsibility to take care of their own safety.
There is enough blame to go around in these type circumstances, but personal responsibility and accountability are an individuals decision that they must live with
