Current News & Events / Re: Fairfax Farmers Market???
« on: September 01, 2009, 06:15:51 PM »
Nicole and I have been there every Saturday since the first in June at 7:30.  We figured since there was so much interest in town to have a farmer's market, if we built it they would come.  Well...we built it and nobody came.  We called it done 2 weeks ago.  We both have busy families and other obligations Saturday mornings and really feel like we gave it our all.  If anyone has some positive ideas to make this happen or the time to invest in researching and facilitating, we welcome them.

Nicole Swanson will probably have some for sale at the farmers market this Saturday.  She had it priced at $2 for a good size bunch.

We welcome any and all local crafters, growers and artists to join us this Saturday at the Fairfax Farmers Market (9-12) to introduce your products.  For only $50 you can reserve a spot for the entire season (June-October) or $10 per Saturday to sell your products and meet some great people.  Come share ideas, stories and even a tasty treat with some old friends and maybe even make some new ones!  This Saturday we will have vendors selling fresh eggs, breads, quiches, rhubarb, baked goods, jams, jellies, fiber art, pottery, hand made cards and paper art, fresh flowers and more.  If you would like to register for a space, please email me at melissabeerworth@yahoo.com or just show up Saturday between 7:30 and 8:30 to register and set up.  Don't forget to bring a table and canopy or tent if you wish.

If you don't have a special craft or produce to sell, come support your friends and neighbors and buy local!  Pick up some goodies for your weekend BBQ or a gift for your next party, some flowers for your sweetie, or indulge in a piece of pie and great conversation.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Current News & Events / Re: Board Minute Question
« on: April 23, 2009, 08:57:27 AM »
I was at the meeting, and it is my understanding that Stanley is a usual fill in driver when Don needs help at certain times.  Don is very responsible with his budget.  The board agreed Don was very capable of running his department and could make the decision as to when he needed Stanley to fill in at his discression, provided his budget allowed, without asking for permission from the board every time..  Regarding "hiring right", I believe this simply refers to Don using Stanley because he has been previously approved to serve the town's highway department.

Current News & Events / Re: Fairfax Voting Results
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:01:17 AM »
I want to congratulate John on his win and also thank everyone who came out to vote yesterday.  I had a great time meeting new people from town,  talking to people with concerns and hearing stories about Fairfax.  I appreciate the snacks, hot cocoas and coffees, bootwarmers and extra socks ,from old friends and new, that kept me warm and full for the 9 hours I was outside yesterday!  This is a wonderful town we live in and I will continue to participate and contribute in any capacity I can.   Thanks for all the support!

Political Issues/Comments / Melissa Beerworth for Fairfax Selectboard
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:02:49 PM »
I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you who don't know me.  My name is Melissa Beerworth and I'm running for the vacant 2 year term on the Fairfax Selectboard.

I grew up in Beverly , on the North Shore of Boston, MA were I graduated from Beverly High School in 1999.  I worked for 4 years as the manager and buyer for a local boutique.  I moved to Burlington in 2003 were I lived for a year before my husband and I moved to Fairfax in the summer of 2004 and purchased our home on Buck Hollow Rd.

At the encouragement of a good friend, I started to attend the weekly public Selectboard meetings in July of 2008.  I was immediately intrigued by the complexity of what goes into running the town I have called my home for the last 4 years.  There are very important decisions made every week that have a huge impact on the citizens of Fairfax .  There in lies my reason for asking for your support.  The age bracket of 25-34 year olds is the second largest demographic in this town.  I feel very strongly that this demographic needs a voice on the selectboard.  This perspective in the decision making processes that affect our day to day lives as residents of Fairfax  is currently nonexistent.

I do understand my opponent is an upstanding, well respected, and long time member of the community.   I believe that as Fairfax has grown, so has the need for a fresh look at some old problems and an even-handed approach to new challenges facing our community.

I have attended all but two weekly public selectboard meetings since July of 2008.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent volunteering on the board for the Fairfax Parks and Recreation department; participating in the organization and facilitation for the annual Egg Run and Community Day.  I also look forward to working with the Fairfax Common organization in there efforts to develop a community center here in town.  I am a dedicated advocate for the Success by Six program recognizing the importance of community supported early education and school readiness.

If I am fortunate enough to be elected, it is my intent to listen to the needs and wants of all of every resident of Fairfax .  I truly have the best interest of the town in mind, as Fairfax is where I have made my home and intend to raise my children. I would welcome the opportunity to represent you on the selectboard.

It is my belief that my experience managing and budgeting for a successful business, and recognizing the importance of being fiscally responsible as a stay at home mom in a one income household, has given me the tools needed to serve the people of the town of Fairfax .

I look forward to the opportunity to serve and thank you for your attention.

Respectfully

Melissa Beerworth

Current News & Events / Re: Will The Bells Be Ringing In Fairfax
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:41:12 AM »
There is nothing like the sound of church bells.  Growing up, I lived near a church where the bells rang every hour on the hour.  That's how we knew when it was time to get home for dinner or if we were running late for school.  Memories!
