I miss this site for purposes of discussion. It seems the only place for exchanging dialogue is FB and that is just not good for in depth conversation.  FPF is another site that does not lend itself to discussion. I miss Henry.

I realize that folks do not want their tax money spent irresponsibly on unneeded frills for the community.  However, I believe it is time once again for Fairfax to make an investment in our school that will serve many for years to come.  The facility is our community building and it needs to be used as such.  With the proposed upgrades and additions it will bring us into the 21st century and provide a facility that one can be proud to work in and to be more comfortable in attending functions The topic has been vetted and those who wish to know the details have had mutiple opportunities to do so.  To kick the vote down the road does nothing but raise the cost of the proposal.  I am voting yes and I hope the majority of the community does also. Peter that's great for your road, but the select board has got to put some money into rebuilding some of our roads.  Gosse Pond, for example is not safe for horse and buggy let alone vehicles.  It is terrible.  Not the fault necessarily of the road crew, but they need some $ to put into the infrastructure.  You cannot keep grading without new material at some point.

Fairfax is now known as "Casellaville" as a result of all the containers strewn throughout the ,entire town. Very attractive indeed and so much more efficient lol

In my opinion, having served on the Select Board, it is time for Fairfax to have a town manager to administer activities within town government.  We have become too large for a part time select board to do those things necessary in administering an efficient government.  With all due respect to those members of the board, they simply do not have enough time to be able to do many of those things important to the residents.  I think we, as a town, should pursue this path.

Sue and I attended the Fire Dept Calcutta Saturday evening and what a good crowd.  My compliments to the organizers, it was a good time (even though we did not win), good food and good company.   Great job taking care of our town and getting a crowd out to support you.  thank you  John Mitchell

It will be a challenge for the many private road residents to move the bins to an area for pick up.  One will need a truck to move them to the area and two people to load them in them in the truck.  Not well thought out for sure and it reminds me of an analogy that " a camel is a horse designed by a committee" .  I observed this a great deal while in Montpelier!

  It is good that the session has ended albeit without much having been accomplished this year. One exception is the increases in the budget, fees, taxes, etc.  Montpelier really needs to come to terms with spending and realize we Vermonters as citizens and businesses cannot afford more of the same.  Indeed many have simply given up and moved on.  I will support you in the fall in hopes that you can continue to carry that message to the capital..   Overall I think you did a good job representing our community.   thanks

My opinion is that curbside should remain and each unit should pay.  If the numbers are correct it will cost more, including time and transportation, to take our own trash/recycle to Georgia transfer station than it will to retain curbside pickup.  Having said that, it is imperative to keep some competition in the bidding process.  It is also my opinion that this should be a line item on all tax bills and all parcels of land and dwelling units should pay.

  I was interested to read of the recognition of the Eagle Scouts in the chamber.  As the mother of an Eagle Scout you know first hand what Chris had to do in order to make that rank.  It certainly is a life time achievement and one to be forever proud.

Sue's grandfather, Clifford "Clip" Stewart, used to tell of sliding down Main St. on a traverse sled.  One of the group would be on the corner in front of what is now the bakery with a lantern.  When the lantern was waved, which meant no oncoming horse or car traffic, the sled would descend and go all the way to the "iron bridge" (Lamoille Bridge).  I think Main hill was dirt then as well.

 Barbara,  I realize how difficult it is to make one's opinion known in the State House.  However, I do hope that legislators do finally come to the conclusion that we can no longer support 4%-5% budget increases year after year when our economy chugs along at 2% growth.  We need to cut programs and spend within our means.  I hope it goes well for you and our state during this session Barbara.  Just remember NO NEW TAXES OR FEES!  John Mitchell

For those folks who did not know Mary and Willard, they were wonderful neighbors and Sue and I miss them greatly.  They kept their property immaculate and were very always active.  As the way of many old village homes, theirs will probably never be the same as it was when they lived there.

Kenneth E. Norcross
(October 10, 1940 - July 18, 2015 )

Ken passed away Saturday, July 18,2015, at Franklin County Rehab Center after a very long and difficult struggle with Alzheimers. He was in the arms of his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years Gloria Jacques, and other family and friends. He was born Thursday, October 10, 1940 in Saint Albans, VT, Son of Otis Norcross and Lillian (Peters) Norcross.

Ken was a graduate of BFA in St. Albans, and served his country in the US Navy. May 19, 1962, he married Gloria Jacques.  Ken joined the Fairfax Troop 53 Scouting Program and served for many years. "Mr. Ken" mentored many young boys in the troop and we are sure those young boys have fond memories of him.

Ken and Gloria traveled a lot with our very dear friends and traveling buddies, Jim and Fern Mercure. Thanks for the memories and now he is in the Co-Pilot's Seat. His biggest accomplishment in life was his 3 boys. He always got an extra sparkle in his eyes when he talked about his 3 Marines. Tom and Trudi McEnany will always have a special place in his heart. Ken was self-employed most of his working career, retiring in 2008 due to illness.

A special thanks to the staff at Franklin County Rehab Center, for all the TLC shown to Ken and Gloria over the past 2 years.  You all have a special bright star in heaven and he is smiling down upon you.

Ken is survived by his wife Gloria Norcross, his 3 sons, Stephen Norcross and his wife Alda of Essex, VT, Jeffrey Norcross and his wife Lois of Shickshinny, PA, and Scott Norcross and his wife Debbie of Stafford, VA, 6 grandchildren, Anna, Jordan, Alicycia, Daniel, Jessica and Kurtis, 2 great-grandchildren, Akacia and Adalyn, 1 sister, Mildred Shepard, a brother William Norcross and his wife Althea, and several neices, nephews and family members. He was predeceased by his parents Otis and Lillian Norcross, a brother Lawrence Norcross,
and his sisters, Rita Goodenough, Leona Young, Marion Myers and Eugenia Hubbard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Angels Church Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Monsignor Reid Mayo celebrating. Interment will follow in the Norcross family lot in St. Luke's Cemetery in Fairfax. The family will receive condolences on
from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Friday in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans. Online condolences may be sent to his family at the funeral home website: www.bradyandlevesque.com.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128, Williston, VT 05495, or the Franklin County Rehab Center, 110 Fairfax Road, St. Albans, VT 05478.
