Using euphemisms like "undocumented workers" is part of the problem.  Call them what they are, ILLEGALS!

General Discussion / Re: Fairpoint on Fletcher / Fairfax Road
« on: February 09, 2011, 11:12:13 PM »
I have heard from a FairPoint employee and others that that spool of five optic cable is going to be connected to the phone switch in front of the general store by June and that DSL service well be available within a certain radius of the store.

I have also heard from a reliable source that GlobalNet has increased their bandwidth, which should provide customers with speeds close to what they expect now, and will be offering 10Mbps wireless service in the coming weeks.

Things after looking better for high speed internet in Fletcher all the time now!

I spoke with Paul at Globalnet today and he took my info, said upgrades should be done soon but couldn't give me any specifics about what is being upgraded.  A 10.0 option would be fantastic, I might actually see real speeds above 1.0 then.  I'm presently on their silver plus (2.0) plan and not getting anywhere close to that.  I just did a test and got .26 :(

Mine's been really bad since around Christmas.  I just did a test and am getting .35mpbs.  Not happy.

Just a little update in case anyone else is contemplating going with them.  Our service seems to have gotten worse and worse over time.  It really isn't usable for much other than basic browsing, Netflix is completely unusable.  I just did a speedtest and was .35 down.  I actually disable the wifi on my iPhone at home because the AT&T service is much faster than what I'm getting from Globalnet.  I've heard that Fairpoint is supposed to be out to our area this spring.  As soon as I have a viable option I'll be jumping ship.  I'm really not happy with the service at all, but when it's your only option you're kind of stuck.

We've had it about a week now.  It's been decent thus far.  We're on the Silver plus plan (the highest we could get), which is supposed to be up to 2.0mpbs.  The fastest I've experienced though has been 1.6mpbs.  It's still usable, checking mail and basic web surfing are fine.  Netflix is so-so.  It typically buffers every 15-20 minutes.  The installer said that they are going through upgrades and come November things should get better.  Overall I guess I can't complain, we have no options other than satellite, and I'm sure this is far better.

Thanks to all who posted feedback, I truly appreciate it.

I'm thinking about going with GlobalNet (we live off of Rood Mill Rd, cable and DSL are not available) and am looking for a little more info.

How are people's speeds as of late?  Is it fast/stable enough to stream Netflix?  Has anyone tried to cancel?  When I spoke with them about placing an order it seems that you are locked into a one year contract, there's no trial/cancellation period in which you can bail if you are not happy with the service.  To be honest, it makes me nervous about signing up.
