As usual, WCAX is light on facts or details. There was a liner failure on a lagoon at the Treatment plant. This was tertiary treated wastewater that was in a the lagoon for more than a month before the unplanned discharged. This is not something to be highly concerned about, especially the level of treatment that had occurred before the discharge.

I agree with Mary Kay that everyone has a choice to voice their opinion. I read the Fairfax News online and more than one person used their title - which is not uncommon in other places as well (in my local paper in NH, same thing happens for every election).

It was a great game on Saturday and our BFA Bullets team gave the crowd a lot to cheer about. They played with integrity and heart, making the hometown crowd very proud!

Noise and a lot of shaking down (moderate shaking according to New England Cable News) here on the NH seacoast. Reports are it was a 4.6 centered near Hollis Maine. Don't know if there is much of any damage but I have heard of cell phone and power outages in the area.

As a civil engineer I can say I am surprised and disappointed if this is what the Selectboard used as their reasoning for changing the speed limit. The study provides little information and no conclusions or recommendations. There wasn't any assessment of the accidents (location, cause) that provides any supporting evidence that the speed limit was the cause. If I were to guess, with the exception of the data collection (which they didn't describe collection methods), the amount of time to write this up must have taken less than an hour. Also not sure who the "engineer" was since all that was noted was the Northwest Planning Commission. A good traffic engineer would have provided documentation on the data collection process, analysis of the data collected including accidents, identify potential areas of concern (safety) and would make recommendations. The Selectboard should rescind their vote and if they truly believe there is a problem on Fletcher road they should spend some money ($10K or less) on a real engineering study.

NH DOT has been using salt brine for several years on the highways for pretreatment before a storm to reduce the icing. They do not use it solely and not at all if the storm starts as rain since it washes away before the snow starts. I believe MA Highway Dept also uses salt brine for pretreatment. As a commuter, the reduction in rock salt and sand on the highway has been a positive as I haven't had to replace my car windshield every spring (fewer stones kicked up into windshield).

Around the NH seacoast we are seeing prices around $3.21 for a low, hope the trend continues!
