Theresa Duffy
September 18, 1943 — October 25, 2024
Fairfax
Theresa Isabel Duffy passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in Burlington, Vermont, surrounded by loved ones. She was 81. She was a bright light whose generosity, kindness, and creativity will shine on through her loved ones. She took joy in being a Vermonter, a dairy farmer, an Irishman, a Duffy girl, a teacher, and an artist.

Theresa was born on September 18, 1943 in Burlington, Vermont to Vernon P. Duffy and Elizabeth R Duffy. A lifelong Vermonter, she was raised on the Duffy Family Farm in Milton. She graduated high school in 1961. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1965. She began her teaching career in Middlebury, Vermont. She went on to teach at Milton High School and Bellows Free Academy – St Albans. She did all this while being married and raising three boys. She retired in 2009.

Theresa cultivated several interests throughout the seasons of her life. As a child, she was an avid basketball player, providing tenacious defense for the Milton Yellow Jackets in high school. She was selected for the All State Team an incredible four years . As she came of age, her interest in basketball mysteriously gave way to a fascination with the Beatles.

John F Kennedy stoked her idealism. His presidential campaign instilled in her a sense of civic responsibility. One of her fondest and most talked-about memories was attending the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City working on the convention floor with other fellow Vermonters in her age group. She became a lifetime member of the Democratic Party and participated in local politics and campaigns throughout her life. Wherever she was, no matter what she was doing, she had to tune into Marselis Parsons on the WCAX news at 6:00.

In her adult years, she cultivated her childhood interest in art. She dedicated her free time to painting, arts and crafts. Family members were fond of receiving her special homemade cards. She was an active participant in the local arts community. Her work was featured at farmer’s markets and establishments in St. Albans and Williston, Vermont.

Theresa is survived by her sons John William (Bill) Paeplow, Patrick C. Paeplow, and Martin Paeplow and his fiancée, Dez-Ann Sutherland; her grandchildren Julien Paeplow and Lesly Zapata; her sisters Mary Ann Godin (Reginald), Katherine Cadreact and Shanley Triggs (Daniel), as well as Elizabeth Circharo, Jessica Melgarejo, and scores of loving nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Marvin Phelps Alderman
July 14, 1938 — September 2, 2024
St. Albans

Marvin Phelps Alderman, 86, of Georgia, Vermont, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, surrounded by his family. He is fondly remembered for his thirty years of dedicated service to the Georgia community and his unwavering commitment to education and family.

Born on July 14, 1938, in Fairfax, Vermont, to Stephen and Gwendolyn (Marvin) Alderman, Marvin devoted his life to nurturing young minds and fostering a supportive educational environment. After earning a master’s degree in education from Johnson State College, he began his teaching career at Milton Middle School and Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax. In 1966, Marvin became the principal of Georgia Elementary and Middle School.

Marvin was known for his belief in the transformative power of education and worked tirelessly to ensure every student had the opportunity to succeed. He coined the phrase “where everybody is somebody” at Georgia School, reflecting his deep belief in the inherent worth of every student. A staunch advocate for educational equity, he was committed to ensuring that all students had access to the resources they needed, regardless of socioeconomic status. Marvin’s generosity was evident in his actions; he was always the first to provide winter coats and supplies for children in need. Beyond his professional achievements, he was cherished for his kindness, dedication, and humor. Marvin was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Judith Ann Alderman (Savard). The two met while studying education at Johnson State College and were married on November 23, 1963. They shared a love of education and worked together at Bellows Free Academy and Georgia Elementary and Middle School. Marvin and Judith initially lived in Saint Albans before moving to Georgia, and later to Fairfax. They ultimately settled on Georgia Shore Road, where they enjoyed their retirement and cherished the beauty of Lake Champlain and their surroundings. They loved traveling to New Mexico, celebrating Western and Native American culture, golden retrievers, and collecting art from local artists. They often enjoyed the company of their friends, including the late Maurice Fitzgerald of Georgia and his wife, Mary, as well as their extended family.

Straight out of high school, Marvin joined the Navy, where he met his lifelong friend, Wayne Larry of Saint Albans. Marvin and Wayne maintained their friendship throughout their service, visiting each other whenever possible. They enjoyed reminiscing often about their nearly seventy-year bond over a rum and coke and a laugh. On Marvin’s last day, even though he was partially conscious, he recognized the presence of his best friend and managed to greet Wayne with a heartfelt "hello," a final gesture that spoke to the depth of their lifelong bond.

Marvin is also survived by his four children: Stephen Alderman and his partner, Rhonda; Mary Beth and her wife, Margaret; Margery Haselman; and Samuel Alderman and his wife, Darcee. His grandchildren include Joshua Haselman, Shelby Haselman, Sydney Alderman, Sophie Alderman, Savannah Alderman and her fiancé, Griffin, and Sadie Alderman. He is also survived by his sister Patricia McNall of Fairfax and her family. Marvin's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many students whose lives he touched with his dedication and love.

Marvin was an avid collector of antiques and a master craftsman, renowned for his expansive knowledge of history, antiques, and woodworking. In his workshop, he dedicated himself with precision and love to crafting beautiful furniture that will be cherished for generations. His high skill level and passion for the craft were evident in every piece he created. His collection of antiques from his hometown of Fairfax, notably Farrar & Stearns stoneware jugs from the 1800s, serves as a tangible link to a bygone era, reflecting his deep appreciation for local history and craftsmanship. His grandson Joshua not only continues this cherished tradition by preserving the antique collection but has also learned the art of woodworking from Marvin. This passing down of skills ensures that Marvin's legacy of historical reverence and craftsmanship lives on through Joshua’s work.

Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 1994 at the age of 56, Marvin demonstrated extraordinary strength and resilience. Throughout his subsequent health battles, he remained steadfast and continued to lead a vibrant and fulfilling life for 32 more years. His unwavering courage and determination were evident until his very last day, leaving a profound impact on everyone who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Marvin’s honor. Marvin was a consistent and generous donor to St. Jude’s throughout his life, reflecting his deep compassion for children in need. Marvin will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his remarkable resilience, and the profound impact he made on his community.

Current News & Events / Sharon Provost died August 15th, 2024
« on: August 23, 2024, 06:56:55 PM »

On August 15, 2024 a steady, bright light ceased shining as Sharon Lee (Aiken) Provost passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was born September 7, 1951 the daughter of Cleon and Elizabeth (Williams) Aiken.

From a young age Sharon was hardly ever without a beloved dog by her side. From raising German Shepherds to agility and obedience with her Shetland Sheepdogs, she loved being around, with and of dogs. With her breadth of knowledge and experience in all manner of dogs, she was often sought out by those in her dog "family" for her frank advice and willingness to share her knowledge generously and joyously. Her love of animals was not limited to dogs. She welcomed horses, birds and even the occasional cat into her heart. Her connection to animals was of "whisperer" caliber. She understood animals in a way that was truly a blessing and a gift.

Her genuine compassion, kindness, and fierce loyalty defined her as a devoted wife, daughter, mother, cousin, chosen sister and close reliable friend. You never had to ask Sharon twice for her help. Her devotion was fueled by her genuine respect, pride, and love for those she welcomed into her life. Fiercely devoted to her family, you could be sure to count Sharon among those at many a family event, boiled dinner, or gathering always armed with the Aiken quick wit, humor, and can-do attitude.

In addition to her passion for her family and her community of friends, she loved her vast collection of plush animal toys, meticulously cared for her home and gardens, enjoyed day trips and adventures with her daughter and cherished friends, and copious amounts of chocolate (the darker the better).

Sharon will be deeply missed by her husband Tod Provost (Fairfax, VT), her daughter Kim Accorsi (West Lebanon, NH), her beloved dogs Gabi, Sony and Banner, her parrot Alex, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to list. Equally bearing the loss is the "chosen" family she created through her life long friendships and connections. Her humor, strength, tenacity--even her stubbornness--will be remembered forever. In short, she will be deeply missed by all, and the love she shared with so many will ripple through the world in each person who loved her so.

Donations may me made in honor of Sharon Provost to the Franklin County Animal Rescue (https://www.franklincountyanimalrescue.org/) in St. Albans, VT or the McClure Miller Respite House (https://www.uvmhomehealth.org/programs-services/hospice-palliative-care-program/mcclure-miller-respite-house/) in Colchester, VT.

She enrolled in St. Albans Hospital Training School for Nurses where she excelled. In 1949, she was a member of the last graduating class of the St. Albans Nursing Program.

Gladys’ lifelong true happiness was in her role as a nurse. She was ready at a moment’s notice to help anyone, anytime; always only a call away for relatives and friends. Her experiences at the St. Albans Hospital included that as an IV Nurse, Obstetrics, Operating Room, and as School Nurse at BFA Fairfax. In 1981, she became a Nurse Practitioner, one of the first in the state of Vermont.

Gladys married Ulric (Rush) Rocheleau on October 14, 1950. They were very well suited for each other and led a very social life. They had many friends and parties at their house and camp. One of Gladys’ and Rush’s favorite places in the world was at their camp on Lake Champlain where they summered for more than 40 years.

She is survived by her son Karl and his wife Cheryl, her daughter Karyn, three grandchildren, Matt Rocheleau and wife Rebecca, Christopher Rocheleau and wife Kate Gardner, Jessica and husband Derek Miller, and four great grandchildren, Halle, Alexander, Otis and Cole. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Ulric (Rush) and her siblings Madeline Doyle, Carlton Martell, C. Allen Martell, Gloria Martell, and Lorraine Chevalier.

Gladys belonged to many organizations such as Board of Continuing Ed. for Nurses, Franklin County Mental Health, Retired Teachers Association, NMC Auxiliary, Warner Home Board, Franklin County Alcohol Council, American Heart Association, Ladies of St. Anne, Catholic Daughters, Autonoe Club, Elks Club, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, St. Albans Duplicate Bridge Club and Green Mountain Doll Club.

Andrew "Andy" Roger Lavallee, a loving father and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2024. Born on February 21, 1952, in Colchester, Vermont, Andy lived a life filled with a passion for helping others and a love for spending time with his family.

Andy's career path led him to his tenure as an Engineering Manager at Green Mountain Power. His natural curiosity and knack for fixing anything, from cars to antique clocks, was a lifelong pursuit. This desire to contribute extended beyond his profession, evidenced by his dedication to volunteering with Randolph Center, South Hero, Saint Albans, and Westford Fire Departments. He later became a Certified Fire Fighter Instructor with the Vermont State Fire Academy where he served for many years.

Known for his great sense of humor and commitment to others, Andy was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Whether it was fishing on the boat, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other's company, Andy cherished these moments. He found joy in spending countless summer days at the family camp on Lake Champlain.

Andy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by his children, Matthew and Lauren Lavallee, his siblings Joanne Wilkins, Dennie Lavallee, Peter Lavallee, David Lavallee, Marie Mcklay, Ted Lavallee, Richard “Dick” Lavallee, and Rebecca (Becky) Roy. Andy was predeceased by his daughter Catherine Lavallee, brother Robert (Bob) Lavallee and his parents Roger and Elaine Lavallee.

Visitation to honor Andrew's life will take place on May 4, 2024, at Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton. Friends and community members are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on that day, with a brief service to follow. There will be a private celebration of Andy's life at his favorite place, the Lavallee family camp this summer.
