My Dad would have so appreciated all your efforts on this website that you continually do! I personally cannot thank you enough! You were and still are a very special friend to the Raymond family and Fairfax is blessed to have you in the community!

Hi All,
I am incredibly blessed to have Brian LaClair assisting in upgrading VTGrandpa and then soon the photos will be an option again!
We hope to have the new upgrades and running fully over the course of the next few months.
Please be patient and we will announce it when it has been completed.

Born on July 23, 1939 in Fairfield, VT, Bernie grew up on the family farm with his parents and siblings. After graduating high school in 1957, he enlisted in the US Army for 4 years while serving two of those years in Germany, specifically in the Army Air Wing Division. Upon returning to the states, he took a job at Kaman Aircraft adjacent to the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT which specialized in military helicopters. After finding an apt in Windsor Locks, he met the love of his life, Jean Quagliaroli, who lived next door. The two love birds married and began a family. In 1965, with two sons born and another child on the way, the family moved to St. Albans, Vermont so Bernie could begin his career at IBM. Preparing for a larger family, he began construction on a new house in Fairfax in 1967. The family moved in 1968, just before the last two children were born. Now a family of seven, we became regular attendees of St. Luke’s Catholic Parish. Bernard’s passions ranged from tinkering with engines which grew from working on the farm to collecting cars. He was smart and witty with plenty of spunk and creative ideas. He often found a reason to laugh and wanted you to enjoy life with him. He spent his retirement endlessly taking long walks and watching many movies. During his last years, at St. Albans Health and Rehab, Bernie made many friends with both staff and residents. Our dad will be missed by many. Bernard was predeceased by his parents – Gerard and Alice Gregoire, Jean’s parents, Jessie and Joe Quagliaroli, two sister-in-laws and six brother-in-laws. He is survived by one brother, Raymond (Sheila); and five sisters, Madelyn Shattuck; Suzanne (Tom Schofield); Rita Lamothe; Cece (Tony Franceskino); and Mary Jane (Larry Fisher); and Jean’s sisters – Joyce and Janice; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bernard leaves behind his wife, Jean, of nearly 60 years along with their 5 children and spouses, Bernard, Jr.(Donna); David (Tammi); Patty (Steve); Mark; and Linda; 11 grandchildren – Stephen, Joseph, Rebecca, Danielle, Matthew, Abigail, Justin, Luc, Naomi, Brenden, and Nicole; and two great grandchildren and another on the way. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Cards of condolence can be sent to Jean at St. Albans Health & Rehab, 596 Sheldon Road, St. Albans, VT 05478. On Friday July 26th, Fairfax Town Clerk Office will roll up our sleeves and help save lives! We will proudly partner with the American Red Cross to hold what we expect to be the first of many blood drives.
Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. We are very excited about the drive and I hope you are too!
Let’s show our community and the patients in need of blood just how much we can do. It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact. Let’s blow this out of the water!

St. Albans - Karen Susan Benoit Martell died unexpectedly on April 24, 2019, in her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 47. Karen is survived by her three daughters Brooke, Alyssa (Casey) and Taylor; Her significant other Chris Wood; Her step children Cameron, Jillian, Liza, Colby, and Liam Wood; Her puppies Midas and Aria; Her parents, Norman and Jacqueline; Her siblings Lynn (Bruce), Mark (Jen), Eric (Marie); Her nieces and nephews Mindy (Devin), Teia, Sierra, Tanner as well as her great nieces and nephews Trent, Grady, Charlie, and Emalynn; her extended family and work family through Northwestern Counseling & Support Services (NCSS). Karen is predeceased by her paternal and maternal grandparents as well as her Aunt “Dot” and Uncle Leo. Karen was born on December 5, 1971, in Saint Albans, Vermont to Norman and Jacqueline Benoit. She graduated from Saint Michael’s College in 2011 with a Master of Science in Administration. Karen began working for NCSS in 2003 and continued to work there until the time of her passing. She will be remembered by her girls as a “super mom” who loved them more than anything in the world and gave them the strength to get through this time together. Karen was accomplished at everything she attempted and always strived for perfection. She was a generous and dedicated individual who had a passion for life and was a pillar of strength for anyone who needed it. Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 2nd from 3:00-6:00 pm and the service with a reception will follow on Friday May 3rd at 11:00 am. Both calling hours and the service will be held at Northside Baptist Church: 1321 Fairfax Rd, Saint Albans, VT 05478. Pastor Dan Frost will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Karen’s beautiful life. Karen’s girls have created a memorial website where you can go to remember and share your favorite memories (https://sites.google.com/view/karen-s-benoit-martell/home). The Heald Funeral Home also has a webpage ( www.healdfuneralhome.com) you can visit to send your condolences. We ask that any donations made in Karen’s name be made to Northside Baptist Church. Mom, we thank you for all that you were and all that you gave. You made us into the people that we are today and it’s your strength that will get us through this difficult time. We love you.
