In 1997 at one of our local Historical Society Meetings, the local skimming stations scattered throughout the town were discussed. Skimming stations were where farmers apparently brought their cream to be shipped for the purpose of making butter. Don't know as we ever answered the questions how they kept it cool, but suspect it was ice harvested in the winter.

Carleton Ferguson happen by my web site and read the article I had written and the research I had done and one of the names happen to hit home with him. He actually has a photo of the main creamery owned by Fred Smith up in Fletcher, who owned some of the skimming stations here in the town of Fairfax.
The article contains a small photo of the creamery which is the house James Ferguson lives in up on the North Road -- You may have noticed it as Carlton tells me it is painted pink -- There was much more to the house in the earlier days as you can see in the photo below:
