I see the culprits in this case weren't wheezing teens, but crack cocaine addicted men.  I wonder if they used to have morals, and drugs took their morals away?  I wonder what it is they aren't getting from their lives to have to resort to drug addiction to find fulfillment.  I know it feels hopeless sometimes, but I wonder what can be done to prevent people from wanting to put poison in their bodies.

Do kids at BFA get drug/alcohol abuse education information in health classes?  I realize just having the facts alone is not enough of an answer to this problem, but I was curious if anyone knows.

Stay warm out there, don't get frostbite!

From what I hear and what I see there is a big problem with drugs and the sale of drugs in Fairfax. Being a recovering alcoholic I can say this. I never wanted to be an alcoholic and the thought process of that disease is awful. There is a lot more to it than the actual glass or bottle of wine. No one in their right mind would do that to themselves. Alcohol is bad because it is socially acceptable and legal. When I lost my first child I found that it was very easy to have a couple glasses of red wine. We all know where that ended up. (Maple Leaf Farm). Now I am living the most beautiful phase of my life. I feel for anyone that gets rapped up in either of the 2. I am also blessed because I have been able to show my children the problem and the solution. Not all  of us have that opportunity. I am very thankful.

Well said slpott. I to have been blessed. (22 years now). The thought process is insidious. After you are out of it for a while you realize how much it took over your entire personality, ethics, morals and integrity. When you do get out, you do get all that back. Although life isn't perfect you are more capable of handling it. Thanks splott for sharing.

I lost my dear friend to an overdose.  He was given the drugs from someone who gets meds from the hospital for controlling their habit. I have never understood how me paying for their habit (person doesn't work and we pay for eveything) to be on buttes or whatever they are called is getting them better.  Detox like the rest of people  who overcome addiction is what I say.

I have seen people detox themselves from this.  It is not pretty and they went through a week of struggles, but then they got through it and are NOT taking meds.  And those are people who will overcome their addictions and move forward in their future.

We also loss another young man for the same reason last year....... when is it going to stop.

MKR well said, I knew both parties you speak of and the common denominator I guess you could call it.  Really sad stories for both of them they were so young and the latest one had small children.

Splott, Thank you for sharing your experience and congrats to you for having the will power and being strong enough to fight your addicting successfully.

As a parent, its one of the hardest things to see happen- especially to your own children: No matter how hard you've tried, talked to the child (-esp. when these "habits" are ones you may have witnessed as a child yourself growing up, alcoholism on both sides of the family), they don't listen....go out to bars with "friends" that witness & know there's a problem, but sometimes these friends still encourage that & the drug use,  drink too much to walk let alone drive until something happens.... it tears families apart.....why can't they see it??  words cannot describe the feeling a parent feels......
sorry, I guess we are off the original topic but appears to be one close to our hearts
