I have only eaten fiddleheads once.  Maryann and I stopped at Jana's Cupboard many years ago for lunch and that was our veggie.  I just loved them and so did Maryann.  I believe they grow wild around here, but I have never seen them.

Can someone identify the first flower? I originally thought it was a May Apple, but the stamen and number of petals is wrong. Genus name and species anyone? Common name? It is a small flower. Just trying to learn the names of the things I see. I know there is someone here who knows this stuff. I could not find it in the Vt Wildflower book.
 And...for what it is worth, if anyone ever sees something they would like as a print, let me know via email. jas@surfglobal.net

The location of fiddleheads is like a good fishin hole. If someone asked me, "Where did you get your fiddleheads"? I would reply, "In Fairfax"

Please tell John that his unidentified wildflower is Spring Beauty, Claytonia virginica in the same family as Portulaca and purslane. It
would've been hard to identify it from this photo because the flower in the foreground has six petals. The one behind it has the more
typical five petals.

Don't ya need to be careful with fiddle heads?

I thought you need to pick them at a certain time not to get the sickies?

Basically you have to make sure you cook them long enough and the only ones that taste good are those of the ostrich fern.

The UMaine link is very helpful. We did eat the fiddleheads I photographed. Nice to know now they were fiddleheads.
