My thought seeing the photo was C-130.  It is the same basic model as the "Fat Albert" the Navy Blue Angels fly for air shows.  The take off / landing distances needed are impressively short considering the size of the plan and their cargo load capacity.

When I was stationed at NAS ADAK our station plane was and old C-130 that USED to be a FAT ALBERT.

I rode it home to Anchorage one weekend,,,,, they placed forward facing non-reclining seats in it.

I agree with Josh, worse flight I ever did have.

I rode a C 141 from Adak to Anchorage once....
Web troop seating along the side and half pallets in place in the middle.
COMFY AS HECK! Best flight ever!

I rode in a C141 shoulder to shoulder in the cargo nets with a full load of pallets from Naples to Rota to Philly...not so comfy after 4 or 5 hours.

I didn't know until seeing this post what type of plane it was flying so low (nor the nostalgia it evoked) I did fear for a few minutes, however that there might be an MCI in Fairfax,  when this plane could barely be seen through the trees flying over Hillcrest Farm/Huntville Rd as it circled around the area a couple of times!

Everyone was correct; it was a C-130 Hercules.  I have been in the Military for 18 years and just recently had the opportunity to execute a training mission in my home state.  It could not have happened without lots of help from my father; Buck.  He is a retired SMSgt from VTANG. Thanks Dad, Happy Fathers Day!  Vermont provides a unique training environment, in that it offers both mountainous terrain as well as flat lands.  To the folks that were frightened, you can rest assured  our training mission was executed safely and with professionalism.  Without the great training we receive, we would not be the well prepared armed forces our nation expects of us.   Take care Fairfax; I can not  wait to be a resident again when this part of my life is over.   See you soon.  For the kids that saw us above, stay in the books, study hard, and you can do anything you put your mind to!

Naples, Italy to Rota, Spain,  to Philly in 5 hours?
