INCIDENT/VIOLATION:     Motor Vehicle Collision

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT:  01/02/2012 @ 14:30

LOCATION:              U.S. Route 2 Middlesex, VT

OPERATOR 1:         Stephanie Myette

Passengers in Vehicle #1:  Brenda Cruz, Age 30, Montpelier, VT

                 Chris Magoon, Age 34, Barre City, VT

DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:

On 01/02/2012 at approximately 14:30 hours, Vermont State Police – Middlesex received a report of a two car motor vehicle collision on U.S. Rte. 2 in Middlesex, VT.

Investigation showed that operator #1, Stephanie Myette was operating a 1998 Honda Civic east bound on Rte. 2 in Middlesex. Operator #2, Stefan Hard was operating a 2000 Subaru Legacy west bound.

Investigation indicates that Vehicle #1, (Myette) lost control of her vehicle while traveling east and began fishtailing in the roadway. Vehicle #2, (Hard), who was traveling west, attempted to swerve away and stop to avoid colliding with vehicle #1. Vehicle #1, (Myette) rotated around in a clockwise direction and the two vehicles made contact near the center line. The front of vehicle #2, (Hard) made contact with the driver’s side of vehicle #1, (Myette).

Operator #2, (Hard) was wearing his seatbelt and his airbags deployed. Hard suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention at the scene.

Operator #1, (Myette) was not wearing her seatbelt and was extricated from the vehicle. Myette sustained serious injuries and was transported to Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. Myette displayed signs of alcohol use and was processed at CVH for suspicion of DUI. Myette was later transferred to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.

Passenger #1, (Cruz) was not wearing her seatbelt and sustained serious injuries. Cruz was transported to Central Vermont Hospital and later transferred to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.

Passenger #1, (Avery) was wearing a seatbelt and was extricated from the vehicle. Avery sustained serious injuries and was transported to Central Vermont Hospital. He was later transported to Dartmouth Hospital in New Hampshire.

Passenger #1, (Magoon) was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Magoon sustained serious injuries and was transported to Central Vermont Hospital.

The driver of vehicle #1, Stephanie Myette, Age 21 of Montpelier has died as a result of her injuries.

Vermont State Police continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with any information regarding this incident or the activities of those involved prior to this incident is asked to contact Trooper Dan Trottier at the Vermont State Police in Middlesex.
