Fairfax School Board and Teachers Adopt Negotiated Agreement
New contract reflects total 3.99% increase salary and benefits over 2 years
Fairfax, VT / April 18, 2012: Franklin West Supervisory Union is pleased to announce that on April 17, 2012 representatives of the Fairfax Board of School Directors and the Fairfax Education Association signed a two-year contract which was ratified by both parties earlier this month. The new contract will go into effect on July 1, 2012 and continue through June 30, 2014.
In the first year, the agreement provides teachers with a 1.785% increase on a base salary of $34,200 with no step increase. Year two offers a 2.21% increase on a base salary of $34,950 with no step increase. The Board will continue to pay 80% of a teacher’s health insurance premiums in each year of the contract.
The collective bargaining process began in October 2011 at the Supervisory Union level in accordance with Act 153 which calls for schools to explore supervisory union contracts. After initial consideration, the school education associations and local school boards decided to return to local negotiations rather than pursue a Franklin West Supervisory Union teachers’ contract.
