Used H & R Block At Home To File My Taxes

Well, I decided that for my simple taxes paying $279 to have them prepared was a lot of money.  My daughter prepares her own using H & R Block on line while a number of other people I know use Turbo Tax.  I decided yesterday that since I had all my information together in an envelope to bring down this year, I might as well try it at home.  I created my account and got started and withing a couple of hours had e-filed my Federal and Vermont State Taxes.  It told me that everything appeared fine and when I compared what I got vs what the preparer did for me for 2011, there was a little difference, but I was able to explain it and understand what caused it.  It ended up costing me $79 instead of $279.  In this day and age, $200 is nothing to sneeze at.

Nice. Turbotax is nice except it can't handle certain thing like not claiming renters rebate if you know you don't qualify. They want all the forms done. Both H&R and Turbotax had some filing issues this year which I thi k related to student issues.

This was the 1st year I tried an on-line service.

I used to buy the H&R Block download every year so I could to imports from the previous year.

I mixed it up this year and did them on the H&R on-line service too.

I found the gui much nicer than last years paid download.

Now I have an extra $40.00 to spend on something!
